For the first time in 6+ years I've actually dusted off my old blog and published a (potentially controversial) blog on the topic of psychologically informed therapy - a complex, controversial and nuanced topic I've thought about writing on for a while.

Taught a Trap Bar Deadlift, a Landmine Deadlift and a Kettlebell Deadlift to clients all in the same day.
I suppose this counts as a Deadlift Hat Trick :)
In this old @physionetwork article of mine - I share common mistakes and workarounds I see with regards to weight training injuries

Mini rant for my rehab colleagues:
If seeing a non-traumatic upper limb case - check the neck first.
If seeing a non-traumatic lower limb case - check the lumbar spine first.
Have seen wayyyy too many cases get misdiagnosed by other professionals who've missed this step.
This past week my coworker Ian and I were interviewed by @Rogers to give some tips on the popular Canadian activity of Snow Shoveling.
Some of this is inferred research and some of it is anecdotal - however I hope you find this helpful.

These recent fitness/nutrition posts saying f*ck your emotions have a time/place & work for some however these AREN'T appropriate for all.
Some fitness, nutrition or rehab cts need a kick in the *ss & some (I'd say most) need more compassion, listening, understanding & support.
I freaking hate when practitioners question/debate with a ct about their 1-10 pain rating. I always tell cts "it is what it means to you."
Instead of questioning/debating w/ a ct who gives a high pain # - ask more detailed questions & get a deeper understanding & connection.
In my newest article for CARESPACE Health+Wellness @carespace_health I discuss why and how weight training exercise technique can be different for different individuals. Some influence from Dr. Stuart McGill and Lee Boyce in this one.

One of the biggest things I've realized over the last few years both in my clinical and strength training careers ... is that rest intervals between sets is an extremely underrated topic that, especially in higher level rehab, doesn't get near the attention it deserves.
In my newest blog for CARESPACE Health+Wellness, and Part 2 of this series (Part 1 linked in article) I discuss more weight training myths. Enjoy!

A colleague of mine asked me via DM "what is your method/routine for learning?" Since this is a common question , and since I'm overdue for posting some content, in this video I share my approach to continuing ed for rehab & fitness.

The biggest tip I give my weight training clients is to write down and track what you're doing in the gym.
Unfortunately many people I talk to don't track their workouts which makes it hard to know if you're making progress and to make adjustments.
Discussion I had at work yesterday with a coworker:
We talk a lot about terms like deconditioning, weakness and frailty in our clients - yet we don't have great or consistent ways to define or standardize them.
So - I have officially wrote for @PhysioNetwork for 5 years!! I want to say thank you to the team for being a pleasure to work for and for allowing me to reach a bigger audience with my work. If you are new to my account you can find all my articles here

Have given lots of Bulgarian Split Squats in my rehab/return to sport programs lately. Not sure if that means I'm a
1. Good therapist
2. Bad therapist
3. Wannabe strength coach
4. Wolf in sheep's clothing
5. Or all of the above
Guess it depends on the case & interpretation :)
Evidence based fitness professionals - any good resources for understanding the interference effect between strength/power and cardio ... that a lay person could understand?
