We’ve been taught about the deregulation wave of the 80s and 90s but there really wasn’t a simplification of the rules back then. The rules just kept increasing unabated.

Rules serve only one customer - the incumbent who writes them - directly or through their proxy.

Less rules create more competition. More competition always disrupts incumbents. Fewer incumbents drives more dynamic and quicker cycles of wealth and income redistribution.

But as long as the rules keep getting more and more complicated, incumbents will benefit despite any real effort or skill.

That seems dumb.

The truth of the matter is that most vaccines are not properly tested.

RFK Jr. on Gardasil, “Gardasil is probably the single worst mass vaccine that we’ve ever seen. This vaccine targets millions of preteens and teens for whom the risk of dying from cervical cancer is zero. Nobody in their right mind would ever take this vaccine if they actually read the clinical literature.

Death rates in the Gardasil trials were 37 times the death rates for cervical cancer. Children who take that vaccine… are 37 times more likely to die from the vaccine than they are to die from cervical cancer.

The problem with Gardasil, like most vaccines, is it was never tested against a true placebo, an inert placebo. And the CDC and HHS say, if you don’t test it against a true placebo, it’s not science.

You have no way of gauging whether the injuries you’re seeing from the product are being caused by that product, or whether they’re just bad, sad coincidences. The entity that is actually performing the study and paying for the study is Merck. Merck got to decide which injuries were being caused by Gardasil and which were just bad coincidences. And because it had that power, it just wrote them all off as bad coincidences.

You can do that when there’s no placebo, because the injuries they were seeing in the control group, where the girls were getting aluminum neurotoxins, were identical to the injuries they were getting in the Gardasil group. So they said, well, we don’t have to report any of these as vaccine injuries. They were able to license something that is insanely dangerous.”

This is infuriating on a personal level and let me tell you why:

My wife was pregnant and in her clinical year of PA school at this time. She’d already had covid. Her doctor--and even the doctors teaching at her PA school!--said it was totally reasonable to not get the vaccine since she had the antibodies and was pregnant.

But virtually none of the hospitals or doctors offices in the DFW area would accept PA students for clinical rotations if they weren’t vaccinated—even if they were pregnant, even if they had the antibodies—because they were following Fauci’s advice.

My saint of a wife put our baby daughter first and still didn’t get the shot because she didn’t want to risk anything that might mess with the baby, but we had to spend months and months living out of Airbnbs in various rural small towns across Texas—the only places in the state where hospitals couldn’t afford to turn away help from PA students, vaccinated or not—while eating the rent on our empty apartment at the same time. It was worth it but it literally cost us tens of thousands of dollars while we were a one-income household living on a journalist salary.

And so now, to see Fauci had the same concerns she did? Infuriating.

The mandated and doctor recommended COVID-19 shot for pregnant women was effectively an abortion shot according to new documents just released by Senators Johnson and Paul.

This is shocking stuff. It's a killer shot even as compared with the other killer shot against which it was compared. They hid the signals with pooled data. It's an outrage. I even sometimes wonder about the ethics of this trials, much less having an agency declare them safe and effective. They are neither.

Minus inflation, the cost of cosmetic services like nose jobs and sex changes has decreased 88% since 1992. The cost of hospital services like hip replacements and heart surgeries has tripled.

Cosmetic procedures operate out of pocket, so patients shop on price and quality. Most medical surgery does not.

It’s ridiculous we can make frivolous harmful things easy, but are not allowed to have life saving nice things.

It’s literally easier to turn yourself into a woman than get your gallbladder removed.

Cosmetic surgeries should be the only thing covered by the insurance monopoly. Everything else should be exempt. Then regular medical care could get better instead of just nose jobs.

Obamacare was the government intervention on top of the government intervention making healthcare prices explode.

In 1942, a wartime wage freeze pushed companies to offer insurance instead of pay.
One of those “temporary” programs.

In 1943, the IRS made it tax free so coverage jumped from 9% to 63%.
Insurance companies (middlemen) were everywhere, price signals between patients and providers were dead.

In 1945, federal law effectively stopped health insurance from being sold across state lines.
No national competitive market.

35 states require a Certificate of Need to open a new hospital, so they end up with half as many per capita.
Supply cannot meet demand.

The mess the government created was an excuse for Obamacare.
Now the mess Obamacare created has become the excuse for government taking over the entire healthcare industry.

And it all starts with just a single government intervention in the free market.

I heard the greatest story of promotion incentive hacking at FAANG today.

A very well known Engg VP knew that:
a) you can only really be promoted in ~2 yrs. the few cycles after a promotion are pointless
b) you are promoted on your impact, complexity, scope, leadership and independence

In order to make sure his entire team gets promoted in due time, he would just ensure the ~25% of his team 2yrs into their level and "up for promo" this cycle take credit for the work of the entire team, with their consent, gets promoted, and repeat round robin.

Over the years, everyone on his team would get promoted always on time leading to others wanting to join his team. His headcount would keep increasing, and he'd get promoted too! Yet effectively the team was producing about ~50% of their entire capacity because after a promo, no one really had to do any work. Almost everyone on their team clears $1M+/yr.

Beautiful and disgusting example of gaming broken incentive structures at large institutions.

Government has become so big and bloated that taxes cost more than life's basic necessities. Every American taxpayer should be outraged.
