@FlannyMLB If I could love this 1M times i would. Baseball was my passion growing up and I can no longer stand MLB. Small Market teams don’t play the same sport. I’d take years of labor stoppage to see the $$ aspect of the game be fixed.
@DanMyersCards@bobfescoe Everything’s catered to clubs in all sports. The parent-coached teams are an anomaly. My son likely wouldn’t be playing high level comp as he is, and definitely wouldn’t beg to go practice like he does. 2nd graders having three practices a week and playing 2 leagues is insane.
@BHIndepMO most disheartened I’ve been as a Royals fan. KC has a generational talent under contract, with several good/plus-type pieces around him, but it’s not likely enough. Economics of sport are that KC is staring down having to trade him for another rebuild. No revenue share = no fix
@notgaetti Yeah but the Dodgers can pay 148% of the Pirates entire gross revenue in player salary and luxury tax. Why is arguing over another $20,000,000 to $40,000,000 in player salaries even in the topic of conversation?
@GarysheffieldJr LAD $169.4 million 2025 luxury tax penalty was higher than the individual 2025 player payrolls of more than a third of the teams. If baseball and sports in general should be more so about entertainment than fairness, don't change anything. We're already there for the majority.
@TDohms33@kingdom_royals He is, but we are failing in this window. Missed playoffs last year, on pace to miss this year. Only a matter of time that the Royals will get deep enough in the window they will need to consider shopping Witt for the next set of prospects (lottery tickets).
@TDohms33@kingdom_royals Mil and KC are about the same size. Market size should not dictate completely different approaches to winning, i.e. perfect draft over multiple years, supplement with mid-tier FAs, salary room perfectly mapped out for a 3 year window, only to wait 7 more years for next window.
@TDohms33@kingdom_royals Dodgers, Mets and Yanks have 6 players with higher AAV than the highest Royal (BWJ). Royals have 2 ranked in top 100 (No. 35 and 44). Dodgers have 9 in top 100 (incl No. 1 and 2), NYM and NYY have 7 in top 100 (NYM - No. 3,5 and 9) ( NYY -Nos. 4, 6 and 7)
@JacobsFieldRBW@TwitSFCA@PolicyJosh@KeithOlbermann The Dodgers bring in more cash just from local TV before selling a single ticket than a small-market team brings in from its entire local media footprint. A small-market owner literally cannot match that spending year-over-year without losing tens of millions of dollars annually.
@JacobsFieldRBW@TwitSFCA@PolicyJosh@KeithOlbermann shocked that educated people actually argue "owner should just spend more money." There are 32 teams that play in the same league. None of them are startup companies. why shouldn't they operate within the same constraints, with the same amount of money from the league as a whole?
