Tropical Depression Nine will likely become Imelda today. Forecast guidance strongly suggests this storm avoiding a direct hit across the Southeast coast this week. It'll likely take a turn to the right thanks to Humberto spinning away in the Atlantic. No impact to Alabama.

TD 9: Tropical Depression 9 early this morning, with winds of 35 mph, is about 275 miles northwest of the eastern tip of Cuba. It is moving to the north/northwest at 7 mph.

It is still expected to become Tropical Storm Imelda within the next 24 hours. Almost all of the reliable ensembles now keep the system offshore of the southeastern United States, though some impacts are still possible. The latest NHC forecast is shifted to the south and east. It could impact Bermuda in 5-6 days as a post-tropical cyclone.

There is still some risk of heavy rain, wind and high surf impacts for the immediate southeast U.S. coast even if the center remains offshore.

This system will not impact Alabama in any way, and no tropical storms or hurricanes are expected across the Gulf for at least the next 7-10 days.

The latest trend for PTC9 (Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine) has it slowing down and eventually pushing east. Odds are increasing it could follow behind Humberto. Note: Forecast can still change, and the slow moving storm will likely produce coastal rainfall, flooding, and some storm surge. FL/GA/SC need to watch this storm closely through early next week. Next name up on the list: Imelda.
