I was reminded today that my job as an Algebra teacher is not to determine which students are worthy of the sacrament of Geometry. It is to make all of my students “worthy” of geometry.

Zeros or 50% is sort of a false dichotomy. A more appropriate question is is our grading policy sensible. Do we grade HW? If so, why? Do we have reasonable late work and effective retake policies? Do we provide a variety of ways for Ss to demonstrate mastery?
