@crobo @HayekAndMill @WeLoveBath@bathnes@bathnesld Reassess council tax so that people living in £1m+ houses pay the right amount. If commercial property is empty then it isn’t due to a lack of demand in Bath, it’s due to extortionate lease costs. Employ people who realise that loss of indies effects all sectors of Bath.
@LansdownView@bathlive@BathSpaUni@UniofBath@bathnes I agree on commuting and freeing up houses but who says that students aren’t or won’t be invested in Bath. So many graduates return to Bath to live later on. It is really the tone of treating students like scum that I take issue with.
@SusanTomes But I also don’t think anyone should be letting the council off the hook on CIL’s and capitulating to developers avoiding building social housing!! There are so many issues in this topic, none the fault of the students though.
@SusanTomes That’s insane. While I think that students should be cared for and integrated into our community, it seems that the only answer is campus style accommodation which, incidentally, would also decrease the amount of buses needed in Bath.
@cinnamontoastuk@LansdownView@bathlive@BathSpaUni@UniofBath You can’t park, there is congestion and the pollution would be hideous. If there was demand for it then developers would be building along there. The only scheme done there is a build to rent. It’s a commercial drag with a smattering of homes right on the road and student halls!
@cinnamontoastuk@LansdownView@bathlive@BathSpaUni@UniofBath Your issue is the council building/enforcing absolutely NO affordable housing. This has nothing to do with the students. They didn’t steal the site. The council is simply not providing for this section of society. Neither the council nor the Uni’s are acting in Bath’s interests!
@cinnamontoastuk@LansdownView@bathlive@BathSpaUni@UniofBath Also if that is the true concern then why not take issue with developers wangling out of their affordable housing provision. Furthermore what have the council spent CIL funds on? And also why are they applying CIL’s to affordable housing developments?
@Houseofclinick@bathlive Also, naive question. Why hasn’t the university built for their students? Every other developer is all over it so there’s obviously a good yield. Why isn’t the Uni jumping on this and wanting the profits?
@Houseofclinick@bathlive So many issues wrapped up in one letter then. Would be interesting to see how many students live in ‘halls’ beyond 1st year. I just think people need to be careful with tone. It hit me in Sept when freshers stayed with us briefly. So young and vulnerable yet treated with disdain.
@Houseofclinick@bathlive That makes sense. Surely then there needs to be a ‘shove’ to get them out of houses and into student accommodation. The problem is this letter fights the very thing that is needed as an alternative to houses. It sounds like a 2 pronged approach is needed.
@LansdownView@bathlive@BathSpaUni@UniofBath Do you mean solely on campus? Why shouldn’t they live in purpose built accommodation within communities? These are young vulnerable people who have just left home? They’re not lepers! No one wants to live along the Lower Bristol Rd anyway so it works perfectly. Better than houses
@bathlive Five Guys but you need a mortgage to buy them. It’s just so expensive for just a burger, some oversized fries and a drink. It’s more expensive that the gastro pubs in Bath!
Opening in April! Our new Trim St Apt’s. Featuring a 2 bedroom penthouse (sleeping 6) with roof terrace and hot tub. Nothing beats this view of @bathabbey!!!
