.@NYCMayor on decision to keep @NYCSchools open today: "We don't have any more days to waste and the long-term impact of leaving our children home is going to impact us for years to come. I'm not going to contribute to that." ❄ #NY1Snow#MorningsOn1
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot: "Enough is enough. We are standing firm. And we are going to fight to get our kids back in in-person learning. Period. Full stop."

Would it be ideal if all schools had daily tests & great ventilation? Sure, but that’s not reality. We cannot inflict further harm to an entire generation. This is not 2020: We have vaccines + masks, and Omicron is milder. Schools must be open. @ProfEmilyOster@biannagolodryga
If media/teachers union start highlighting risk factors from the flu to kids to close schools, we'll be on a merry go round fighting for open schools every year from 0ctober thru April
We cant close schools again. We cant shut down society. We need to return to the 2019 normal
@vlal42 Yesterday One of a teacher in our elementary school said that it’s the same situation than March 2020 and she doesn’t feel safe in the classroom …. In our school 100% of the staff is vaccinated and 77% of the kids are also vaccinated ….
Ready to teach, provide specialized instruction to diverse learners, draft IEPs, and communicate with families, but @chicagosmayor, @PedroCPSCEO, and @ChiPubSchools has locked me out. They are responsible for my students not receiving their legally entitled services today.
Striking quote from @PedsDanny on @AC360:
"Closure of public schools is the biggest public health failure of our lifetime. Why do we want to do that again?"
Schools remain one of the safest places for children from a #covid19 transmission standpoint.
Shame on the Chicago Teachers Union for voting to close schools again. They are hurting kids and they don’t care.
Proof, again, that parents need more power and choice in their child’s education.

The Chicago Teachers Union is about to vote to walk out rather than return to classrooms amid Omichron surge.
I hope every teacher reads this column.
What our kids have suffered thru long absences from classrooms already has had a devastating impact. https://t.co/VRVMQIDhTY
8700 Covid tests in NYC schools this week and 1 positive.
0.01% rate.
Families and teachers need to know schools are STILL the safest place to be in NYC.
Its time to plan for a full reopening.
It took 4 mos of parent advocacy, several articles in local & nat'l media (inc @NYCMayor & @DOEChancellor being asked about it live on nat'l outlets), 2 mos of mayoral deliberation, 10 epidemiologists, & 1 intractable union, but WE DID IT! RIP 2 case rule. https://t.co/AFP88XtnNW
I’m genuinely confused - why do the teachers who want to keep schools closed also tend to be the more woke-ish white ones? They make this a white priv play but don’t they realize it’s the schedule uncertainties that most black/brown families cant accommodate?
@DOEChancellor@NYCMayor@UFT@rweingarten fresh out of UFT FB page. These are our teachers who need a break until September. Let them enjoy it with our tax paying $$$ at least now the cat it out of the bag, that’s why U want to keep schools closed #KeepNYCSchoolsOpen
