One of these things is not like the others...
2023 is continuing its run of astonishing temperature records, on its way to what is now likely to become the first year more than 1.5 °C above our 1850-1900 baseline.

Complex financial structures have always created problems for ESG investors who want their money to go to climate friendly firms. This case seems to be an example of data gaps filled by estimates, we need ESG funds to conduct *THOROUGH* due diligence into what they're invested in
The insurance industry is bracing for a foreseeable catastrophy.
As climate risks rise their profitability wanes leading to the cost of insurance going through the roof with some places already being considered as "uninsurable"

Why does Coca-Cola sponsor research on obesity? Why did BP introduce the personal carbon footprint calculator? In our new working paper, we offer an explanation: emphasizing individual action shifts whom people hold responsible for solving the problem. https://t.co/L5Fu1Y7qsa
George Loewenstein, @NickJChater, Yi-tsen Liao, and I show that people who read about actions individuals (vs. governments) can take are (1) less likely to propose systemic solutions, (2) hold governments less responsible for solving the problem, (3) think systemic reforms are less important, and (4) are less willing to donate to an organization advocating for systemic reforms.
Our findings provide experimental evidence for an issue raised by George & @NickJChater in a recent paper (i-frame vs. s-frame) and by @sosofancy, who sounded the alarm in the finance industry and coined the term "Deadly Distractions."

Fashion waste is dumped in Africa. It not only causes pollution but fuels climate change, responsible for 8-10% of global emissions. Synthetic materials require an estimated 342 million barrels of oil every yr.
We have better solutions. Implement them.

It's depressing to consider, but I suspect the demise of skiing in the Alps will prove to be far more consequential to the rich world's awareness of climate change than news that one third of Pakistan is underwater.
One day it will become impossible to discuss our global energy system and economy without foregrounding the effects of the climate crisis and the existential need for the world to virtually eliminate our GHG emissions.
That day cannot come fast enough.
