#refugeehs A64: To ensure the saftey of my country I would be very precatious of the refugees criminal background and have border patrol working overtime when accepting an influx of refugees. I would want to have an accepting country while also putting the citizens first.
#refugeehs A63: I do not think that you can compare any of today's world issue with these stories espeically Josefs. In my opinion, WW2 was the worst event in human history and extremely rough for the European Jews.
#refugeehs A62: No the book did not end the way I thought it would end because most stories have a happy ending whilst Refugee did not for the most part. I would definitely want to see Ruthie's journey afterward her mother and brother were taken away.
#refugeehs A58: I think he chose it to keep it this close to end because it can easily go positive or negative for all three characters. One event can change the whole course of the characters lives and we have to use our imagination at the end to see how their story really ends.
#refugeehs A57: Mahmoud is the only one that is remained unbroken from all the events because during Mahmoud's life in Syria he always acted broken and invisible (pg.12). On the other hand, His family always had a lighter mood during their journey, ex his dad cracking jokes.
#refugeehs A56: The birth of the new child is symbolic for 2 things. I think that is symbolic for opportunity in the US because they are so close and it is almost made so that she is birthing out the freedom (if that makes sense). I also think that is showing a new challenge.
@Jesse_seh18#refugeehs Josef, in my opinion, is 100% in the worst position out of all 3 refugees. Knowing Germany conquers most of Europe, Josef WILL be in the trail of the Nazi's sooner or later again.
#refugeehs A52: By the end of this section, I think that Mahmoud was in the worst scenario. No matter your confidence, strength, and power, the moment a gun is pointed at your head, all of that shrinks down. Ex: "never forget the feeling of paralyzing terror, of powerlessness.
#refugeehs A55: The fate of the refugees intertwined when Lito saw that they were so close yet so far away from freedom. He remembered who else in his life experienced the same feeling (pg.276). I think @AlanGratz did this to show how much damage this situation does to lives.
@Jesse_seh18@AlanGratz#refugeehs With his age Lito must have gone through a lot! He during the journey of the boat. He was the one making executive decisions aboard. However he always bumped heads with Isabel's Father. Do you believe it was always like this or this was created from tension in Cuba?
#refugeehs A54: I think that the Captain along with many Germans truly understood what was really happening to the jews because during the holocaust, The extermination of jews was all over the media and most people were aware or even supporting that.
#refugeehs A53: I feel that Captain Shroeder has great sympathy for the passengers aboard the St.Louis because unlike others he does not believe in German antics against Jews. For example, he took down the Hitler Portrait.
I think this will be positive because it saves the men
#refugeehs I think that Josef's family will end up back in Europe, however not in Germany. They will end up in a country that is a warzone and will still somewhat endure the same life they had before the "Kristallnacht".
#refugeehs A51 Mahmoud and his family must feel exhausted. They have experienced travelling through continient and facing many dangerous ordeals. I assume that they would just want to forget everything and give up yet, the father always makes corny jokes and they continue onward
#refugeehs I think that Josef's family will end up back in Europe, however not in Germany. They will end up in a country that is a warzone and will still somewhat endure the same life they had before the "Kristallnacht".
#refugeehs A50: Yes I understood Lito's reference because he is trying to say that this boat is the boat that no one wants, like the St.Louis. Yes, my perspective of Josef changed because now I know that people actually endured the change of emotions through a small time period.
