One of the few objectively beneficial policies that Stalin and Mao pursued was Total Junkie Death where drug addicts were sent to a gulag to "work it off", conscripted, or kept in rehab indefinitely until they no longer relapsed; while dealers were mass executed.

For whatever reason, it's one of the only policies of theirs Leftists don't universally glaze them for even though it was massively effective, especially in China. Mao largely purged opium addiction from Chinese society, which had plagued it for generations.
