🗣️ Is this the moment for AI ethics?

Everybody has AI on their mind. As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly embedded in our lives, questions about its impact are becoming impossible to ignore. How should AI be governed? Who is responsible when things go wrong? And what remains uniquely human in a world shaped by intelligent machines?

In this video, Professor Edward Harcourt, Director of the Institute for Ethics in AI at the University of Oxford (@UniofOxford), reflects on why AI ethics matters.

As AI continues to develop and be deployed across society, ethical questions cannot be treated as an afterthought. Human values, responsibility and informed judgement must remain at the centre of technological development. Professor Harcourt also explores one of the deepest questions raised by AI: what, if anything, is uniquely human?

💭 Why study Ethical AI Leadership at Oxford?

The Oxford Executive Programme in Ethical AI Leadership brings senior leaders to Oxford for three days of focused learning and discussion on the ethical questions shaping AI leadership and governance.

Developed by the Institute for Ethics in AI, the programme draws on Oxford’s distinctive strengths across philosophy, the humanities and STEM, alongside perspectives from technology, business, government and civil society. It gives participants the opportunity to engage with leading academic thinking on AI ethics and consider what it means for the decisions and challenges they face as leaders.

Based at the University of Oxford’s Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, the residential programme offers participants the opportunity to step away from day-to-day demands, challenge assumptions and exchange perspectives with peers.

Conversations continue beyond the seminar room, through shared meals and the wider Oxford experience, allowing time for deeper discussion and meaningful professional connections.

📍 Oxford, UK | 📅 10–12 November 2026
Cohort size is deliberately limited to enable meaningful discussion and exchange. Early applications are encouraged.
