So let's follow the events here to understand how the media is a big part of the problem:
Israel makes a claim that Hezbollah has a bunker beneath this specific hospital. They provide specific instructions on accessing the bunker from a nearby building.
Instead of checking the nearby building, BBC and Sky News ignored the instructions and went to the hospital (where Israel never claimed there was anything) and toured it to declare there was nothing to see.
Meanwhile, a Lebanese journalist for LBC went to the nearby building where the entrance was supposed to be and found armed guards preventing entry: https://t.co/kXOhNawmkS
The anti-Israel campaign is built on myths. They have spread so many lies that the mainstream has lost sight of what is real.

@PeterKimFrank@HenMazzig And the way they refer to her as an American woman, when she was Turkish and also had American citizenship, while referring to Hersh as American-Israeli. Subtle, but the difference matters.
Yesterday on the Mediterranean at Rafah. A short distance to my left, the Al-Mawasi humanitarian zone where huge numbers of people have taken refuge from other parts of Gaza. Immediately to my right, the Egyptian border which has been closed since the war began. In every other war neighbouring countries have allowed those fleeing conflict to take temporary refuge on their territory. Not Egypt. Despite its international legal obligations to admit them. And there has been no international pressure on Egypt to do so since the start. Why not? Many people have died who could have been safe inside Egypt.
The only option left to take with those disingenuous snakes still claiming a genocide in Gaza, in the face of all available evidence, is cold, hard contempt.
Let’s remind ourselves of truth and facts.
The definition of genocide:
“intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group.”
And the component parts:
“1A mental element: the "intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such"; and
2A physical element, which includes the following five acts, enumerated exhaustively:
- Killing members of the group
- Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group
- Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part
- Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group
- Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.”
Firstly, intent. Nowhere, anywhere, has anyone shown evidence of a clear plan to destroy all Gazans. South Africa’s joke of an ICJ case cites a variety of punchy statements from Israeli politicians and soldiers as evidence of intent. Most of these submissions were from people *nowhere near* policy making and - critically - armies do not take orders from press conferences.
Speeches by policy makers have been taken out of context, the old crowd favourite being “Amalek”. But look at what Netanyahu went on to say in that speech:
“In their name and on their behalf, we have gone to war, the purpose of which is to destroy the brutal and murderous Hamas-ISIS enemy, bring back our hostages and restore the security to our country, our citizens and our children.”
It’s obvious what he meant. Factor in the horror of the events of 7 October, and, frankly, you can’t blame Israeli politicians for sounding pissed off, or the utility of threatening an enemy in wartime.
The other half of the equation is action on the ground. We can dismiss preventing births, and we can disregard forcible transfer of children. Even Israel’s critics don’t accuse them of that.
So the other three: of course, people have been killed. Of course, bodily and mental harm will have been caused. This is a war. The key question is how and why?
Hamas fighters are legitimate targets. Israel has killed 15-20k Hamas fighters, with many more wounded. Hamas omits this in their weekly casualty figures (which, of course, don’t stand up to the merest statistical scrutiny). We can safely take Hamas’ reported “40k dead civilians” and bring that total down to 5-15k at most. Still many people; still a tragedy.
But is it legal? Well, that depends on Israeli targeting. Were those civilians legally collateral damage? I don’t know and you don’t know. However: we also have documented and unquestionable Israeli attempts to remove civilians from the areas they are attacking. For example, they delayed the assault on Gaza City until a million people had fled South. That, I suggest, is not the action of an armed force determined to “destroy in whole or in part”.
So, we turn to “Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part”. Even Hamas’ 40k dead civilians, out of 2.4m, disprove this - and as I’ve argued, it’s probably 10k or fewer if you look at the stats.
We’re 10 months in. The conditions, whilst clearly appalling for Gazan civilians, are demonstrably not bringing about physical destruction to any greater extent than one would expect in a war zone of this nature and even the most recent reports say there is no famine.
No intent; no action: no genocide.
Be appalled at dead civilians: that is the correct human response, although civilians are always the greatest victims of war.
But the deepest shame on those who disregard all available evidence and twist facts to cynically and evilly weaponise the worst crime in history, by accusing its historical victims of being its modern perpetrators.
Today I was at an @idf Intelligence sponsored exclusive exhibition where the evils and horrors of the October 7 planning and execution were showcased and never before seen artifacts were presented.
I'll share what I'm allowed to share with you in the following thread. 🧵
Your "colleague", @MSF, was an Islamic Jihad terrorist who served as a significant operative in the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization.
As part of his role, Fadi Al-Wadiya developed and advanced the terrorist organization's rocket array and was a central figure in the terrorist organization's knowledge of electronics and chemistry.
You might not want to announce to the world that MSF employs terrorists.
The 4 Israeli hostages rescued today were being held in apartments in the area of this market in Nusseirat, central Gaza Strip. They were being held by ordinary Gazan families.
