According to Bloomberg, the EU is now prioritising Canada over the UK.
Britain left the EU to build “Global Britain” and an Anglosphere.
Canada is turning towards Europe, Washington towards itself, Australia is 15000 km away.
Global Britain may end up as Britain Alone.
Really hate this dumb pedantry that "it's not genocide if it's unintentional!". Like sure, they didn't WANT a genocide, they just happened to take every action and policy that leads to a certain ethnicity to die en masse by mistake.
It's the same way the Irish Potato Famine is dismissed.
POSIWID, people!
@bdquinn I think, just like Marxists saying that the solution is material conditions, this is just a "the far-right would be defeated if people did [thing I want anyway]"
Novody is winning anything while the narrative can be controled by freakouts and lying.
Ok, but you just pointed out that smaller migration = easier freakout.
And the rise in anti-immigration parties happens exactly in regions where there are the fewest immigrants in a country.
And again, people lie. Remember when people were really convinced the economy was bad because burgers were $50 (with truffles, delivered + tips)?
And that's putting aside not just the other crazy factors I mentioned, but also foreign influence in public discourse and the fact that people can just lie now. Immigration might be reduced to zero and it won't matter because you can just post videos of that one day in Ceuta over and over. Or AI generate a thousand more.
@bdquinn But the threshold for freakouts lowering with your immigrant population would, if anything, prove that lowering migration would NOT work.
It surely seems to prove the progressive addage that xenophobia is born out of lack of interaction with the other.
And at least they are old, it's entirely possible that as late as the 2060s people will be posting pics of Macron like "the Meta-Liberal party of the Sixth French Republic is crashing in the polls and Macron is watching holo-movies on his vacation on Venus 🙄"
ATP, I genuinely think you made it in politics when people take pics of you doing normal stuff years after the end of your career and complain that you're not single-handedly fixing the country from the sidelines.
People do this w/ Obama, but never with Tony Blair or Bill Clinton
@Luzbelito_jiji@caresouI The only parasites are the ones who look at other cultures and call them parasites.
And yeah, it's totally unrelated to your far-right president. You all just jumped the moment he yelled about the islands. Cattle.
@RepEpstein@Alesbackupn4@ratvisionist But when it's the same people parroting this same shit, along with every single "EU WILL BAN BREATHING OXYGEN!" bs story that was parroted in British media and elsewhere for years leading to Brexit, you should start to ask yourself some questions.
@gwereco@ratvisionist And the treaty of Lisbon had no vote because it was popular enough that there was no contest. The most sceptical country was Ireland, and there there was a vote and it passed with 67%
@gwereco@ratvisionist It copies most things except the whole constitution thing. And no, being of higher hierarchy doesn't make it a constitution. All treaties in every country in the world superceed national laws. Nobody would sign treaties with anyone if local law just overruled them.
Point of the post aside, I love how, because every sane person already used mostly-proportional maps, people are making these AI maps where Africa is larger than Asia to show the "change"
Now that Africa has successfully challenged how the world maps the continent, should the AU turn its attention to the colonial controversial borders within Africa, by making them economically irrelevant through full free movement and ultimately an African common market?
@Mugnocky@Just1twt@ratvisionist Then don't say Maastricht. And putting aside that this is bs that every single treaty needs a referendum, the Lisbon treaty didn't have a vote in France because the popular opinion was strongly pro. There was no debate. Only Ireland was mixed and there was a 67% yes vote.
@Just1twt@ratvisionist What are you talking about, the Maastricht treaty was 13 YEARS before the proposed constitution.
And there WAS a popular vote.
And France voted YES.
