Held under the @Ireland2026eu, the informal meeting of EU Foreign Ministers (Gymnich) brought together counterparts from Ukraine, Canada, Iceland, Norway, the United Kingdom and Switzerland to discuss security challenges in Ukraine.

Ministers also discussed the situation in the Middle East, including freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, support for the Gaza Peace Plan and the Two-State solution, and efforts to strengthen the Lebanese state.

Ministers stressed the need to step up support for Ukraine, strengthen space and maritime security, safeguard freedom of navigation and support the Lebanese Armed Forces.

Today, EU defence ministers met in Dublin, Ireland, for an informal Foreign Affairs Council (Defence).

Ahead of the meeting, HR/VP @kajakallas stressed the urgent need to provide Ukraine with interceptors to strengthen its air defence.

Ministers also discussed space and maritime security, the Strait of Hormuz and support for the Lebanese Armed Forces.

Russia is escalating attacks on Ukrainian civilians.
July and August were the deadliest months since the war started.

But Ukrainians are standing strong. We must stand with them.

That’s why air defence is our top priority.
Some countries have interceptors that will soon expire. Those could be sent to Ukraine to help protect Ukrainian lives.
