Agia Marina, Aegina: An Easy Escape by the Sea

Agia Marina is one of those places that makes a day by the sea feel wonderfully uncomplicated. Located on the eastern side of Aegina, this popular seaside resort combines a sandy beach, clear water and a relaxed atmosphere that makes it easy to settle in for a few hours.

The beach is the obvious starting point, with plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy the Aegean. The surrounding hills give the bay a lovely natural backdrop, while the waterfront provides plenty of places to stop for a coffee, lunch or a leisurely drink.

There is plenty to enjoy:
•Relaxing on the sandy beach
•Swimming in the clear Aegean
•Taking a stroll along the waterfront
•Enjoying a coffee by the sea
•Sampling local food
•Watching the afternoon light over the bay

Agia Marina is also a good base for exploring more of Aegina. The island has ancient monuments, traditional villages, pistachio groves and quiet corners that reveal a very different side of the destination.

But there is no need to fill every hour.

One of the pleasures of Agia Marina is simply finding a comfortable spot beside the water and letting the day unfold. Swim when you feel like it, wander when you feel like it and stop for something delicious whenever the mood strikes.

As the sun begins to soften, the atmosphere changes. The sea catches the golden light, the beach becomes quieter and the surrounding hills seem to take on warmer colours.

It is a lovely reminder that you do not always need a complicated itinerary to have a memorable Greek island experience.

Sometimes all you need is a beach, a beautiful bay and nowhere else you need to be.
