Almost 4,000 undocumented men are camping in northern France waiting to cross to Britain by small boat, double the usual number, it has emerged.

The Home Office’s Border Security Commander Duncan Capps said French authorities estimate there are around 4,000 men in camps between Calais and Dunkirk gathering to cross.
