Today, @HRW publishes a new report on the media freedom crisis in #Greece. The pervasive constraints on journalism are undermining democracy & the rule of law.

A Norwegian court has blocked the extradition of rights defender Tommy Olsen to Greece. The ruling is a major win & a direct rebuff to Greece’s attempts to export its crackdown on dissent.
Greece should immediately revoke the warrant & drop all charges

The arrest of human rights activist Tommy Olsen by Norwegian authorities is based on a groundless extradition request by Greece.
Norwegian authorities should refuse to be a part of targeting rights defenders and release Olsen. https://t.co/u1CYfUl4RM
Norway should halt the extradition of activist Tommy Olsen to Greece. 🇳🇴🇬🇷

I am very concerned by the human rights defender Tommy Olsen being taken into custody in #Norway, pending his possible extradition to #Greece. I have known Tommy's work with Aegean Boat Report for years, & fear the charges he faces have been brought in direct retaliation for his work defending the rights of migrants, refugees & asylum seekers. His prosecution appears to form part of the long-standing & well documented repression of people doing such work in #Greece & at the EU's borders. The case against him should be dropped @NorwayInGeneva@GreeceInGeneva
#Greece: In a step towards justice, an Athens court convicted 4 surveillance company leaders of violation of privacy in the #Predatorgate case, in which journalist @nasoskook is a victim. Those who ordered the illegal operations must also be held accountable.
🇬🇷#Greece: IPI welcomes the recent criminal convictions handed down by a Greek court to four individuals from surveillance firm Intellexa whose Predator spyware was used to illegally surveil Greek journalist Thanasis Koukakis. Full statement👇

Five UN Special Rapporteurs remind Greece that its laws should not capture humanitarian acts or stifle those defending human rights. It’s time to stop the criminalization of assistance.

Solidarity is not a crime, but Greece's new law treats it like one.
UN experts have issued a damning critique of legislation that codifies the harassment of civil society we've long documented at @hrw.

Now public: letter to #Greece on the new law on migration, outlining its incompatibility with international human rights law & its impact on people defending the rights of migrants. The adoption of the law is extremely worrying, but unsurprising. Disregard for human rights & attacks on human rights defenders have become cornerstones of Greek government policy in the field of migration @GreeceInGeneva.

#Greece is doubling down on its assault on civic space. From criminalizing humanitarian workers to threatening journalists and lawyers, the rule of law is under fire.
@EU_Commission should act now to protect democratic checks and balances

Extremely concerned by the proposed immigration bill in #Greece which will only further demonise civil society & in the country & criminalise the defence of migrants' rights, placing Greece in violation of its international human rights obligations @GreeceInGeneva@migrationgovgr
🏠 Social Rights: Poverty reached its highest level since 1996, affecting 15.4% of the population. Over 2,100 children were forced to sleep on the streets in 2025—a 30% increase since 2022.
Breaking: @hrw has released its World Report 2026. For #France 🇫🇷, 2025 was marked by political instability, a shrinking civic space, and a deepening crisis of trust in democratic institutions. Here are the key takeaways: #Rights2026

Migration: France & the UK launched a controversial "one in, one out" deal. Human rights groups condemned it as "dehumanizing." Meanwhile, illegal pushbacks at the French-Italian border continue, including for unaccompanied children.
