Cannabis exposure is an increasingly overlooked danger for pets as marijuana products become more accessible, commercially available, and highly potent.
According to the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, more than 6,200 marijuana toxicity cases involving pets were reported in 2021, increasing to over 6,300 cases by 2024. While most exposures are not fatal, one study documented 16 cannabis-related pet deaths, many involving marijuana edibles.
🐾 Dogs are especially vulnerable, often ingesting edibles or cannabis products left within reach. Because pets are far more sensitive to THC than humans, even small amounts can lead to serious symptoms, including disorientation, vomiting, loss of coordination, tremors, seizures, and, in severe cases, coma.
Although many animals recover with prompt veterinary care, the continued rise in marijuana-related poisonings highlights the urgent need for greater public awareness and prevention to help avoid these entirely preventable exposures.

🚨Marijuana legalization continues to fail.
It’s time to ask a serious question:
Is it more fiscally responsible to keep marijuana illegal than to continue absorbing the escalating financial, legal, healthcare, and social costs tied to this dangerous experiment?
Colorado continues to experience the devastating consequences firsthand, and taxpayers continue paying the price.
A new class-action lawsuit filed by a major marijuana cultivator alleges Colorado’s cannabis excise tax system was distorted through fraudulent practices and regulatory failures.
The lawsuit claims:
🌿 Honest cultivators paid inflated excise taxes
📉 The state’s “average market rate” was built on manipulated transaction data
⚖️ Regulators failed to stop sham transactions inside the legal market
💰 Massive taxpayer-funded refunds could follow if the lawsuit succeeds
There is simply no realistic way for the government to successfully manage or regulate an industry this massive, chemically complex, fast-moving, and vulnerable to manipulation by organized criminal networks.
Colorado should serve as a warning to the rest of the country — not as a model for expanding marijuana legalization under a false narrative of safety, accountability, and economic success.
The promise of legalization has been overtaken by corruption, manipulation, black-market influence, and consequences few leaders are willing to admit publicly.
Listen. Watch Colorado. Protect your future.

🧠 The Every Brain Matters community — along with the countless families devastated by cannabis-induced psychosis — are deeply disappointed in our government and every official who allowed marijuana (THC) products to be aggressively promoted in our communities without informed consent, proper warnings, accurate public health data collection systems, or a medical system properly educated and equipped to recognize and treat Cannabis-Induced Psychosis (#CIP).
This article is highly offensive to our families. While politicians and industry advocates continue to misrepresent the risks of THC, families across America are paying the emotional, physical, and financial price. Senator Cory Booker (@SenatorCor9718) and others who continue to push reckless narratives while ignoring growing scientific evidence must be held accountable.
Comparing modern high-potency marijuana to McDonald’s French Fries is not only irresponsible — it is insulting to families whose loved ones have suffered psychosis, schizophrenia, suicide, violence, and severe mental deterioration from THC exposure.
Let’s be very clear: French fries do NOT cause psychosis. French fries do NOT send people into psychiatric hospitals. French fries do NOT trigger cannabis-induced psychosis, paranoia, hallucinations, violent behavior, or suicidal ideation.
Yet every single day, families across this country are watching loved ones descend into cannabis-induced psychosis after using state-sanctioned marijuana. Cannabis-Induced Psychosis is recognized in the DSM-5, yet there is STILL no ICD-10 code available to properly track and measure the damage being done.
How can anyone claim legalization is “safe” when our government refuses to accurately collect the data on the harm? Our loved ones are not collateral damage for corporate profit and political agendas. Families are being sacrificed on the cannabis altar while leaders look the other way.
Nothing makes us angrier than watching preventable suffering ignored while Americans are deliberately misled about the real risks of THC.

Hemp ruling: Texas Supreme Court clears the way for public health
The era of intoxicating products sold at gas stations may end.
By Matt Poling
May 19, 2026
The Texas Supreme Court ruling is important because it not only recognizes the Department of State Health Services’ authority to schedule Delta-8 but also any future synthetic cannabinoid variants, writes Matt Poling.
In a win for judicial restraint, public health and common sense, the Texas Supreme Court ruled decisively and unanimously against the Delta-8 THC industry earlier this month. The hemp industry has exploited a loophole in the 2018 federal Farm Bill and Texas’ 2019 hemp law intended to promote a legitimate industrial hemp market, but industry advocates argued intoxicating cannabinoids like Delta-8 THC, which they chemically converted from hemp-derived CBD, were legal too.
Not so, the court said. In a 30-page ruling that was a primer on federalism and the separation of powers, the court noted that the Legislature, through the Texas Controlled Substances Act, authorized the Texas Department of State Health Services to regulate controlled substances because of “the need for the executive branch to be capable of responding rapidly and authoritatively to emerging threats to public safety from the development of illicit and harmful substances.” This ruling is important because it not only recognizes DSHS’ authority to schedule Delta-8 but also any future synthetic cannabinoid variants.
On the same day, a Travis County District Judge extended a temporary injunction that allowed the sale of intoxicating THC products that Gov. Greg Abbott sought to restrict. At issue is another industry claim that THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) falls outside the legal definition of THC. THCA converts into Delta-9 THC, illegal under both state and federal law, when consumed. It would be like the Coca-Cola Co. claiming its products are “sugar-free” because they contain only high-fructose corn syrup.
Texas’ 15th Court of Appeals is reviewing this ruling that, at least temporarily, endangers the health and safety of Texans.
In addition to the Supreme Court of Texas ruling, the hemp THC loophole is scheduled to be closed federally this November. The era of intoxicating hemp products sold in gas stations and smoke shops may finally come to an end.
Despite relentless industry lobbying and misleading messaging, some polls show support for marijuana legalization softening, particularly with younger conservatives, as more states confront the unintended consequences of widespread cannabis commercialization. In February, even a New York Times editorial acknowledged that legalization “has led to worse outcomes than many Americans expected” and recommended multiple new restrictions.
Perhaps the most outrageous talking point floated by the Texas marijuana movement is that we could cut property taxes if only we would legalize marijuana. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick recently charged the Senate Health and Human Services Committee with examining the impact cannabis use is already having on the state budget. A 2018 study in Colorado estimated a cost of nearly $5 in healthcare spending and lost productivity for every dollar collected in marijuana tax revenue. Meanwhile, Colorado lawmakers are now grappling with a budget shortfall driven largely by rising Medicaid costs and weaker-than-expected tax revenue, a reminder that the promised economic benefits from cannabis do not fully offset long-term public costs.
Public policy should be guided by evidence and public health, not special interests.

🚨 HUGE NEWS! 🚨
Virginia Governor Aigail Spanberger @SpanbergerForVA
has officially VETOED legislation that would have legalized recreational marijuana sales in Virginia next year.
The decision comes after lawmakers rejected changes she proposed to the cannabis retail bill — demonstrating once again that the marijuana industry remains resistant to regulations, oversight, and public safety safeguards.
This veto sends a powerful message: protecting communities, youth, and public health must come before Big Marijuana profits.

A tragic case is back in the national spotlight after Netflix released “The Crash,” the documentary covering the 2022 Strongsville crash that killed Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan.
Now, Mackenzie Shirilla’s father — a teacher — has reportedly been placed on administrative leave following renewed public attention surrounding the case. Mr. Shirilla made statements supporting marijuana use among youth, while toxicology results showed Shirilla tested positive for THC after the deadly 100 mph crash.
This tragedy should spark serious conversations about impaired driving, youth drug normalization, accountability, and the devastating consequences reckless decisions can have on families and communities forever.
Two young men lost their lives. Their families are grieving. That should never be forgotten.
