Michaela is a PhD candidate in human geography. Her passionate devotion to feminism and the crazy notion of equality make her a fantastic dinner party guest
@FromPhDtoLife I love academia and have always wanted to be part of supporting the transformative power of education through lecturing but I’ve been treated so badly I feel broken and burnt out and I feel I owe myself peace by searching elsewhere for a while
As a disabled, neurodivergent woman that is a parent, I try not to be plagued by self doubt because society has successfully outsourced this task and will let me know at all times what I’ve done wrong and the many ways I am a failure whether I ask or not #Disability#parenting
@majazonjic@MarsdenFund This is the best news! This project is going to be such an opportunity to think more complexly about the iconography most of us take for granted
@majazonjic Reviewers are anonymous, have you considered the possibility that she is peer reviewer 2? Her look says "This has potential but could explore the pat-to-good-dog ratio in more depth as cited in (Molly, 2021)"
@majazonjic I experience similar vibes in psychology, a student will write graphically about their whole family being murdered before their eyes and you have to say “thank you for trusting me with this information, if we can bring this back to the course materials…” like a casual Tuesday
@majazonjic I am pretty sure what you are experiencing is a curse from all the mediocre white men who are uncomfortable with the idea that you were getting close to thriving and not just surviving in academia
Kia ora Aotearoa 👋🏽
Just a wee PSA to say that masking if you can, even if you don’t “have to” is super rad 💜
Your disabled, immune compromised, #HighRiskCovid19 friends are counting on you to keep us safe as our world continues to shrink.
So #Mask4YourMates !
Are you in?
@PhDrookie@PhDVoice I manually transcribe because of lack of funding but I’ve found it gives me a different way to analyse my data before I begin the coding which is a nice bonus
@MamaDoctorJones From an outsider’s view, watching America always feels like a fever dream and before I spent time there I assumed Aotearoa media were missing the nuance, but that doesn’t seem to be the case
@juliefairey I am currently editing my thesis about infant feeding and have had multiple criticisms for using the terms pregnancy people and parents because I am “allowing men into women’s space” so I feel this
@kaiviti_cam Pro tip: If you don't want an abortion you don't have to have one. That has ALWAYS been an option. Kinda like how no one ACTUALLY tried to or forced a needle in your arm last year.
@NormalKiwi @Kazza59136778 @SiouxsieW You are also not allowed to drive without the proper licence, we need regulations and rules to keep people safe. You can keep that job or travel if you follow the rules set out for everyone. Mixing vaccine mandates and access to safe abortions is oversimplifying both issues
I can't stop thinking about the man who interviewed me as part of a scholarship application and couldn't understand how I could work and be a mother without my grandparents' help because the idea of an involved father seemed so foreign to him #equalityinacademia#parenting
Remember when everyone was like “Millenials are entitled and lazy” and then we turned out to be a whole generation of workaholics who have no boundaries and are still on email at 10pm at night lol
