What future awaits the girl in this picture? I shared her world for an instant in time. Today my thoughts & prayers are with those left behind, my hope is that one day the people of Afghanistan can find some form of peace and stability. #HumanSecurity
Today is International Women’s Day.
Over 70,000 women serve in Ukraine’s military.
Thousands fight on the front line.
Medics. Snipers. Drone pilots. Infantry.
They are not just defending Ukraine.
They are defending freedom itself.

@MrMatthewTodd importance of humanising climate coverage.
humans experience climate change differently as a social phenomenon, shaped by wealth, race, gender.
journalists must create narratives for climate story grounded in science and it's impact on communities.
Excited to share this new piece on why @hrw is calling for gender apartheid to be recognized as a crime under international law. This comes after long & careful discussion w/many colleagues about if there is need for such a law and any potential downsides. https://t.co/RUSirLPm52
@Caz801 I was transfixed by the unfolding of the Corsair wings at the Festival of Flight @ShuttleworthTru
Superb display by the German team from Siegerland Airfield.
With aid cuts & rising conflict, the Women Peace and Security agenda has become an ever more important tool - how can the UK use it better?
We thank @SarahChampionMP & the @CommonsIDC for launching this inquiry into WPS and look forward to supporting it

Dear Alfie,
We haven’t met but I’m the Provost Marshal responsible for Serious Crime in the MOD. I’ve seen the recent posts on FYB and wanted to reach out and ask if you could post the following message – I’m not trying to limit reputational damage, I’m simply interested in making sure victims of crime are supported. Really happy for you to say this has come from me if you want but would rather you didn’t give out my e-mail.
The Defence Serious Crime Command (DSCC) have been made aware of multiple allegations of sexual assaults and harassment which have happened to people, particularly women, whilst serving in the UK Armed Forces. We are responsible for investigating serious crimes within Defence, including sexual assault and harassment, and operate independently of the Royal Navy, Army, and Royal Air Force.
Thank you to everyone who has spoken out on social media. Anyone wishing to report an incident will be treated with respect and can do so in multiple ways. Any subsequent action will be based on the victim's wishes and specific circumstances: DSCC can be contacted 24/7 via the Service Police Crime Bureau at 02392 285 170; Crimestoppers can be reached at 0800 555 111; Alternatively, complaints can be reported directly to the civilian police. There is no need for anyone to speak directly to their chain of command to report an allegation.
Anyone wanting to discuss victim support can contact the Victim Witness Care Unit , which operates independently from the single service Chain of Command, on 07974 074259 or via email [email protected]. Any information provided to the Victim Witness Care Unit will be treated in confidence and you can discuss your options for reporting any allegations.
Further information and support can be found on the Defence Connect Call it Out Hub.
H.E. the President of the Human Rights Commission and Head of the Kingdom’s Delegation, Dr. @AltuwaijriHala, during the Kingdom’s session before #CEDAW :
“The Travel Documents Law has been amended to ensure that women have equal rights to obtain travel documents and travel abroad, just as men do. Previously, women were required to obtain permission from their guardian to secure such documents and travel outside the country.”
Johan Rockström has devoted decades of research to understanding the critical tipping points of climate change through mapping out 9 Planetary Boundaries. Definitely worth watching his Ted Talk.
This day last year I was at St Anne's Kite Festival with the inspirational @Hmosadiq. Kites made by refugee families were marked with messages of hope & freedom.
It's devastating that hope for women in #Afghanistan has been crushed now along with the silencing of their voices.
@The_RE_LE @X@Proud_Sappers Enjoy the course Will. @DefAcUK is a great place to study. Make sure to check out the quiet space at the Barrington Library. Amazingly kind and helpful staff.
