UPDATE: This gets better.

On August 31, Washington received Amazon’s WARN notice for another 121 layoffs.

Then on September 1, literally the next day, Amazon posted new jobs in INDIA for the Amazonian eXperience and Technology Departures Team.

In other words, the same Departures organization whose director is signing American layoff notices is actively adding headcount in India.

Including people who will work on Appeals for departing Amazon employees.

Amazon’s own job posting explains the role:

“Our organization delivers best-in-class service to Amazon employees and alumni throughout their Appeals journey. As a member of the HR organization, you will handle confidential and sensitive information, as well as demonstrate strong integrity and ethical behaviors.”

You really cannot make this up.

August 31: Vani’s name goes on a government notice documenting another round of American job losses.

September 1: Amazon starts advertising more jobs in India for the Departures organization she leads.

An Immigrant from India signs the WARN notice.

America loses the jobs.

India gets jobs.

And when an employee wants to appeal what happened, an Indian, in India handles the appeal - but they’ll do it while ‘demonstrating integrity and strong ethical behaviors.’

Over the same period, its overseas migrant stock grew by about 5.3 million.

For every 1 person added to the Indian migrant population abroad, roughly 38 were added to India’s population at home.

India now has roughly 1.45 BILLION people. Even 1% of that population is 14.5 million people.

No nation can discuss immigration from a population of that scale without discussing the denominator.
