HiRISE 4K: Polygonal Dunes
Polygons are of great interest because they often indicate the presence of shallow ice or of desiccation such as in a mud flat. However, Nature sometimes seems too clever for us. (Click link for more.)

This is the interior of an impact crater filled with deposits thought to be water-ice rich. The presence of polygonal patterns of fractures, probably due to seasonal thermal processes, is a further indication of the ice-rich nature of these deposits.

🔧 Rehearsal time for @ESA_MarsRover! The engineers are carrying out some tests of the descent from the #Kazachok landing platform. This is what it should look like when the rover will land on Mars on June 2023 🤞 Go #ExoMars2022! 🚀
HiPOD: A Greenwich Observatory on Mars
The crater in the center of this HiRISE image defines where zero longitude is on Mars, like the Greenwich Observatory does for the Earth.
