hair straightener rosin. 💇
♨️: before hair straightner rosin went viral, @Nikka__T was already experimenting w/ pressing melt between 2010–2014. flat iron, parchment, heat + pressure, no solvents. the blueprint was forming years before the timeline caught up.
💇: early 2015 phil salazar was already testing a nug in his wife’s hair straightener, golden sap bleeding onto parchment. in march 12 he broke it down on @bcbubbleman’s hashchurch, then it went viral. the birth of rosin tech.
🧻 parchment & pressure: the workflow was simple. fold the bud in parchment, clamp w/ a straightener, apply hand pressure, scrape the result. no gauges, no tonnage. just feel. temps debated. press times tested. everyone learning in real time.
🧪 solventless as signal: after years of open blasting headlines, “solventless” carried weight. rosin felt cleaner, safer, more controllable. the optics mattered as much as the outcome. flower rosin became the people’s concentrate.
🌎 : youtube university: tutorials broke down heat ranges, quick presses vs long holds, tighter packs, directional folds. comments filled w/ yield reports & tweaks. a national lab run by comment sections. from small towns to legal states, everyone tried it.
🧊: flower rosin to hash rosin: early presses used nugs. soon heady’s realized sift & bubble hash pressed cleaner & stronger. the conversation moved from “does it work?” to “how do we refine it?” technique began separating hobby from craft.
🛠️ straightener limits exposed: tiny plates, uneven heat, shaky pressure. the scene outgrew the flat iron fast. heated plates, retrofitted shop presses, hydraulics, & filter bags took over. by 2016, it was hack to hardware.
🏭: brands founded in 2015 like @Rosintechlabss & rosin technologies began selling purpose built presses. what started as bathroom counter experiments became a product category. solventless now had its own economy.
🔥 the era that democratized rosin dabs: the hair straightener wave proved you didn’t need a lab to innovate. a viral clip, a beauty appliance, & parchment paper launched modern rosin culture. from kitchens to commercial plates, the squeeze changed everything.

soilgrown: the hair straightener origin of hash rosin
🎙️ hash church context: Phil “Soilgrown” Salazar was explaining this on @bcbubbleman’s hash church in 2015, with other hashmakers like @CubanGrower on the panel listening in.
🧊 low on melts: “i like melts, i like to dab.” when he started getting low on melts, he began messing with his “no melts,” looking for something he could still dab.
📜 it came down to parchment: soilgrown frames the whole thing through parchment, saying “in the parchment… it all comes down to,” like the paper was where the results showed up.
💇🧩 he flashes back to an earlier session where he overpressed bubble hash using his wife’s hair curler. that is when he noticed the oils separating from the rest of the hash. at the time, he did not think much of it. he says he folded it back together & dabbed it as pressed hash, “some 3 star dabbing.”
🧠 once soilgrown got low again, that old separation came to mind. he “broke out the flattener,” started flattening hash, saw rosin coming out, & says that is where he would collect it.
👤 tracing the influence: @BCBubbleman asked why a hair tool, he credits @ExtractArtist, saying he saw him use a hair straightener to press hash.
🛠️ he explains he did not have a hair iron at the time, so he grabbed his lady’s straightener or curler, & it worked really well.
🌿later, sitting with his father-in-law, he pressed a bud between the straightener & squeezed as hard as he could, expecting nothing. to his surprise, he saw oils around the flattened bud, scraped them up, did it a couple times, & they dabbed it.
😳 he says there was “no residue,” & he was shocked. soilgrown sums it up as luck plus running out of no melts, and ends on “now it’s time to start washing,” still playing around and learning.
📸 nikka t time capsule: video documentation from 2010 shows early solventless dabs on titanium hardware, a stark contrast to today’s tech. soilgrown credits @ExtractArtist for the idea to use a hair straightener to press hash.
note: the 2010 photo is not rosin, it’s melt. it was showing the quality of melt they were making the rosin out of at the time.

the american hash story 🇺🇸
📜 hasheesh eaters & candy:
1857, Fitz Hugh Ludlow drops The Hasheesh Eater & New York’s Gunjah Wallah Co. sells hasheesh candy. america’s 1st hash moment came long before prohibition.
🌍 1960s return wave:
hippies bring back red lebanese hash, afghani black & nepal temple balls. the Brotherhood of Eternal Love scales up, importing tons of afghan & nepalese hash to fund a psychedelic mission.
📰 1973 exposure:
senate hearings crack open the brotherhood & exposes major pipelines. in ’74 High Times launches & keeps hash alive w/ smuggler lore, cup coverage & sticky centerfolds.
🌿 late 70s–80s pivot:
afghan indica hits US rooms. sinsemilla gets stronger, imports get riskier. growers start dry-sifting trim & pressing kief bricks early home hash instead of foreign blocks.
💧 if it don’t bubble, it ain’t worth the trouble:
1980s california, Skunkman Sam (Sadu Sam) cracks cold-water separation. his ’87 mailer teaches heads to stir bud in ice water, let glands sink, strain the rest the physics behind the wash.
🌀 90s innovations:
Mila’s Pollinator & Ice-O-Lator bags hit amsterdam. mid 90s Adam Dunn laminates bubblegum hash into thin “hash wraps.” then @BCBubbleman’s multi-bag Bubble Bags hit forums.
in ’98 Robert C. Clarke publishes Hashish! mapping moroccan, afghan, indian & nepalese tech, tying trichome heads to mesh sizes & giving makers shared numbers like 150µ, 120µ & 73µ. “full melt” enters the vocabulary.
⭐ 2000s melt race:
Matt Rize & others chase full melt, dialing microns & melt grades. early 2010s, Fatty J & Milton Bubbly in oakland help lock in the 1–6 star scale that becomes standard in US hash circles. Frenchy Cannoli brings old-world temple-ball craft to california bubble.
🔥 comphashon & soilgrown:
2006, ICmag user Chadwick Basstardo posts “cannabis rosin,” heating hash so oil sweats out & naming the idea. @ExtractArtist coins solventless in ~2010.
2015, Phil “Soilgrown” Salazar presses hash in a hair straightener, dabs the sap & rosin tech explodes solventless oil from heat & pressure that every garage can make.
🏛️ today’s solventless era:
live rosin, hash holes & hash bars sit on 150 yrs of american hash evolution. from hasheesh candy to bubble bags to flat irons, each era turned imported bricks into homegrown craft.
