Mombasa Port exports rose to a record 517,131 tonnes in July 2026, the highest monthly figure in available records, as total port throughput increased 13.4% YoY to 4.23Mn tonnes.

Containerised exports accounted for 511,545 tonnes, while dry-bulk imports surged 87.9% YoY to a record 1.03Mn tonnes, helping lift total imports 18.9% to 3.53Mn tonnes.

Transhipment, however, fell 60.5% YoY to 159,101 tonnes, partly offsetting the gains.

The July performance extends momentum from 2025, when Mombasa handled a record 45.45Mn tonnes, 2.11Mn TEUs and 15.88Mn tonnes of transit cargo.

KPA also commissioned a KSh 1Bn vessel traffic management system in July as it pushes faster vessel turnaround and more efficient marine operations.
