This silver touchpiece was personally distributed by Bonnie Prince Charlie when touching for the King's Evil sometime between 1766 and 1788. During the ceremony, Charles would've hung this small medal around a scrofula sufferer's neck. From the Hunterian.
King James VI & I, the first monarch to rule over all of the British Isles, was born on this day in 1566. This gold £20 piece that was minted in Edinburgh in 1575 is the earliest coin to depict him. From the Hunterian collection.
It's white Rose Day!
What's best than this engraving of James III/VIII ?
Reading my last monograph with @ManchesterUP that has an entire chapter on how to party like a #Jacobite in #Lorraine on June, 10th!
"To the King Over the Water!"

The Battle of Glen Shiel #otd in 1719 ended the 'forgotten' #Jacobite Rising of that year.

Came across a visceral account o/t aftermath of Prestonpans I've not seen referenced. British trooper George Cranston took refuge in a gravedigger's house & was told of Jacobite dead lying in the church w/ fine linen & plaids over their bodies, w/ Highlanders 'howling over ym'.
Fan of #Jacobites and #archives? @natlibscot Manuscripts Curator Dr Ralph McLean is giving a free talk at the Mitchell Library about collections for #JacobiteStudies in Edinburgh and Glasgow. It's set for Thursday, 19 June and it's free. Don't rebel!
