There has been a noticeable increase in number of open breakages along both Juba and Shabelle rivers occassioned by ElNino floods. Urgent action is needed to protect livelihoods.

The 2023 El Nino had a great impact on the humanitarian crisis in South and Central Somalia, causing displacement of people and increased vulnerability of communities in the affected areas. Happy to note that our work contributed greatly to saving lives and livelihoods.

FAO & institutions of the Federal Government of Somalia met today to agree on the transition process for transferring FSNAU & SWALIM functions to the govt. FAO assists with strengthening Somalia’s national institutions for economic development & resilience to future challenges.
