Interested in the complexity of gene expression in Archaea? We have three open postdoc positions focussing on the coupling of transcription and translation using functional genomics, structural biology and molecular biology in Finn Werner's lab at UCL. Links below!
We are pleased to share our work on the evolution of translation initiation now published in Nature Communications. Take a look at leaderless mRNAs and eS26 in the small ribosomal subunit of Saccharolobus solfataricus. https://t.co/6g5bFuV2r3
Exciting to see this! Once considered the only transcription co-activator/regulator conserved between eukaryotes and archaea, it turns out Mbf1 does actually do something entirely different, sorting out ribosome collisions, at least in eukaryotes.
Online Now: Multiprotein bridging factor 1 is required for robust activation of the integrated stress response on collided ribosomes https://t.co/R3ePQtoZU9
We're recruiting a postdoc! Project focused on the molecular and evolutionary biology underpinning antibiotic tolerance. Come join us

I am very pleased to share our recent study on prokaryotic histone structure and diversity https://t.co/d20OHSG8LS Great work by PhD student @SammyBoterhammy. With @aimeelboyle, @Vikram_Alva, Birte Hernandez Alvarez, Yimin Hu, @MPI_Bio, @LeidenScience
Happy to share our new paper on the characterization of MSTV1, an archaeal virus infecting Methanobrevibacter smithii, the dominant archaeon in the human gut. This was a beautiful collaboration between
@mkrupovic and @SGribaldo labs. 👇🧵https://t.co/oeeohQa0c6
Our review on the chromatin transcription relationship in archaea is out: https://t.co/iXZGhPneoM. ChIP-exo profiles show how chromatin protein Cren7 contributes to the formation of chromatin-free regions around promoters in archaea lacking histones first seen by @georgimarinov.
Nice to see our manuscript on bacterial histone HBb from Bdellovibrio online:
https://t.co/3eGbRQ0TRd
Different from eukaryotic/archaeal histones, HBb binds and bends DNA as dimer. With Birte Hernandez Alvarez,

I never imagined that there would be a paper from my lab titled "The structural basis of ..." but first author @2Magdalena1 and the very collaborative archaeal RNA polymerase made it work 😀. Read it here: https://t.co/QNKxYe9xxF. Thank you also to our partners @lab_engel 🤝!
Please RT: Are you excited about mycobacteria and vitamin B12 metabolism? Do you think you could like working in London? Here's an amazing opportunity for an RA (or PDRA) position at @LSHTM@LSHTM_TB. https://t.co/rCFhYRd8iS
Our story on tracking the in vivo NusG whereabouts is on @MolecularCell! NusG rarely walks alone, enjoys 30S company, works out on anti-terminating and TT-coupling. True saga by brilliant @HAFEZELSAYYED, super support by
@ojp25@M_Stracy and Max Gottesman! https://t.co/1tz5WIHaBI
Now online our studies on the role of the Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus bacterial histone in chromatin organization https://t.co/tTy0qKKgbH
Great collaboration between @Vikram_Alva, Birte Hernandez and @DameLab spearheaded by Yimin Hu and @SammyBoterhammy. @MPIBio @LeidenScienceEN
