RMAFC DELEGATION VISITS BAUCHI TO ADVANCE KOLMANI OIL FIELD DEVELOPMENT AND STRENGTHEN FISCAL SUSTAINABILITY
The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) delegation has visited Bauchi State as part of efforts to foster strategic collaboration with the State Government and relevant stakeholders towards unlocking the economic potential of the Kolmani Oil Field and strengthening sustainable revenue generation.
The engagement focused on exploring practical pathways for maximizing the commercial value of the Kolmani Field, with the broader objectives of expanding Bauchi State’s fiscal space, creating opportunities for economic growth, strengthening energy security, and supporting sustainable development across the North-East region.
The delegation, led by the Chairman of RMAFC, Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, OFR, engaged with stakeholders on the importance of accelerating activities around the Kolmani project and ensuring that the commercial assets associated with the field are effectively developed for the benefit of the people.
The Kolmani Oil Field represents a significant opportunity for Bauchi State and the wider North-East region. Its effective development could contribute to economic diversification, increased revenue through derivation, greater utilisation of associated gas resources, employment creation, and increased private-sector investment.
The engagement therefore seeks to encourage coordinated action among relevant stakeholders to create the conditions necessary for sustainable exploration and exploitation activities.
The initiative is also consistent with the Federal Government’s broader economic objectives under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly efforts to strengthen domestic revenue mobilisation, attract investment, expand economic opportunities, and enhance Nigeria’s energy security.
The development of domestic oil and gas resources, when undertaken transparently and sustainably, can contribute to national economic growth while creating opportunities for host communities and subnational governments.
RMAFC’s engagement underscores the Commission’s constitutional responsibility to promote effective revenue mobilisation and ensure that Nigeria’s revenue-generating potential is properly harnessed.
The Bauchi State Government has an important role to play in creating an enabling environment for the successful development of the Kolmani project. This includes continued engagement with the Federal Government, relevant regulatory and technical agencies, investors, neighbouring states, and other stakeholders.
Through constructive collaboration and coordinated advocacy, the State Government can help facilitate the conditions required for renewed exploration and eventual commercial development of the field.
The State’s commitment to supporting infrastructure, stakeholder engagement, investment facilitation, and peaceful cooperation will also be important in ensuring that the potential benefits of the project translate into tangible economic opportunities for the people of Bauchi and the wider North-East and Nigeria at large.
The engagement further emphasized the need for stronger cooperation with relevant government institutions and agencies to support the restoration and advancement of exploration and exploitation activities in the Kolmani area.
A coordinated institutional approach will be essential to addressing technical, regulatory, commercial, and investment-related challenges while ensuring that development proceeds in accordance with applicable laws and national interests.
The successful development of the Kolmani Oil Field could have implications beyond Bauchi and Gombe States. It has the potential to stimulate industrial activity, strengthen gas utilisation, support power generation, create employment, attract investment, and contribute to broader economic transformation across the North-East.
