Every climate policy wonk/campaigner should read this! Brilliant, comparing the challenge of abolishing slavery (make people give up fabulously profitable assets) to the challenge of making people leave unburnable carbon in the ground. SO many parallels.

New BCA proposal – the US Foreign Pollution Fee Act - has a chance of being passed with bipartisan support. So it’s worth unpacking.
This is a long thread. TLDR: complex to administer, not primarily about climate change, too much discretionary scope. https://t.co/EiIhkqzf5E

Finns det något vettigt i den kritik som Lena Andersson, Elisabeth Höglund, Leif Boork mfl riktat mot nyhetsrapporteringen om klimatet?
Ja, vid första anblick. Nej, vid andra.

“Studies with null results are perceived to be less publishable, of lower quality, less important, and less precisely estimated than studies with large and statistically significant results, *even when* holding constant all other study features.”

Here's the issue with leaving "non-trade issues such as environment and sustainability" outside trade negotiations. What does "no rules" mean? In the abstract, it could be anything from "no trade-environmental measures permitted" to "any trade-environmental measures permitted".1/
#CBAM published today in the Official Journal of the EU - that means it enters into law tomorrow.
That's an accelerated timeline, because they need to accelerate the process of releasing the draft implementing legislation. LOTS of important details yet to come, including ... 🧵
Check out this brilliant NYT video explaining Partha Dasgupta’s seminar work on the economics of biodiversity, staring Partha and Alexander Skarsgård. Key insight, put a price on all natural assets @NYTOpinion https://t.co/KjwyckOPLH
@AaronCosbey Well, I agree as most of the provisions might not really play a role for the companies that trade. But, as we are measuring the effect of the entire agreement, we would assume an absolute effect (i. e. an absolute but not relative increase)
Happy that we finally have published the new @sweboardoftrade report on environmental goods trade and free trade agreements, which I have co-authored with excellent colleagues @ErikMerkus and @nilsnorell. See link and thread on key findings: https://t.co/rDOYCs1F5z
Det är en stark rekommendation att läsa IPCC:s syntesrapport. 36 sidor, det tar kanske en timme. Den beskriver en del rätt obehagliga saker om framtiden.
"The results of our analysis indicate that, in general, RTAs with environmental goods provisions do not affect trade flows in environmental goods." Read the interview with Trade Policy Adviser Erik Merkus, and download our new report: https://t.co/wvsU4ZEOsK #internationaltrade
So much money and innovation in the battery space, for EVs and grid storage. Too early to call winners, but by the end of the decade we will not be constrained by shortages of lithium, or the need for cobalt, nickel. https://t.co/ajDX7MJCEa
Delighted to share our just-published paper titled “Carbon Leakage, Consumption, and Trade” in the @AnnualReviews Annual Review of Environment and Resources #ARER which ranks #6 in Environmental Sciences category with impact factor 17.909 https://t.co/LkRSto5shY
