As a business owner it now makes much more sense for me to sell now rather than invest to grow it. I would have to grow its value by 38% just to achieve the same net proceeds if they raise CGT to 45%.
This is why we have so few British born billionaires, the incentives are all there to sell as soon as possible - and leave.
We need a land value tax to cause a massive housing crash, push homeowners into negative equity, create a sharp rise in mortgage defaults, destroy the value of the banking sector’s mortgage portfolios, threaten the solvency of banks, raise interest rates, freeze first time buyers out of the market, collapse the construction industry, and cause a massive recession by making everyone poorer and killing any discretionary spending. And we need it now.
I will go to my grave, probably early, insisting this country was a happier place when everyone smoked and were permanently half-cut (especially the airline pilots).
@stephaniemain2 Baileys - at the end of a house party when we were students all that was left was some Baileys and some Campari and we mixed them together to play Beirut with. Grim. Strangely I still love Campari but the smell of Baileys makes me retch 25 years later
@madhousedeeside@ShitChester@DeesideDotCom Mark at Airon Services in Hoole is very good - he's always fixed my stuff very well. He's got a workshop on the back of his house, he's a decent sort - 01244 346 722

@rebecca_ryder21 I was quoted the other week £1500 for a lift engineer to fix a lifted bit of vinyl flooring and change some lightbulbs in the lift in my surgery - I bought a tube of floor adhesive and a box of lightbulbs from Toolstation and did it myself for under £35, took ten minutes
@scott_tanfield@MattCas04807118 I remember the first swig used to make you wince but after that you couldn't really taste anything. As students we'd drink WL out of champagne flutes if girls came round
@TheRealJamieKay I've one somewhere in the loft but I can't say it's ever come in useful! I remember thinking it was a bit pointless as a kid. Mrs Holford lost her shit because I used a page that was supposed to go in it to scribble on to get my pen working, it had dried out a bit
The new GP contract shows no increase in spending above GP's own inflationary pressures. So a real terms cut.
Wes Streeting is more interested in the Prime Minister's salary. I wonder why?!
