@dallao_porra@JadePhoen_x So you'd use something like this workflow to pack the alpha channel of a texture file to get the smoothness up and, in theory, that would make the decal shiny https://t.co/ygH71OEtTl
@dallao_porra@JadePhoen_x I havn't tried it yet myself, but was going to for blood decals, but it looks like the smoothness of the decalmaterialprojection shader comes from the alpha channel of the mask texture. So, in theory, you could channel pack a mask image and make the image shinny
This was one of the games that finally convinced me to actually start working on my own indie game. You should buy a copy and get that number up to 2, you won't regret it
@BadVertexDev Hell, I'd go so far as to say that I think it would be a good thing if game engines shipped with basic templates for different character controllers, inventories, interaction systems, etc, that could be modularly put together so no coding is required if you're just an artist type
@BadVertexDev It can be. You can also use the default Unity first person / third person controller like 90% of what's on itch. I think it's cool when people make custom stuff (my controller is), but it's also good when people can start with basic building blocks that are known to work well
@inkblotPrincess And the one's that actually do it well, like I imsims, tend to be wildly unprofitable. Which is a shame because they're dope, but ultimately cater to a very niche audience
@HorrorUntitled What size texture do you general use for decal atlases? I'm probably gonna implement something like this for decals and stuff like doors and such. I'm thinking 1k but honestly that's just based on vibes
@MjTheHunter Break them down into as many simple, discrete, and independently functional & testable, systems as possible. The only thing one piece should know is what its inputs & outputs are. Any complexity should emerge from the relationship between the inputs/outputs of those subsystems
@timgill924@kalosphilo I think the kind of person arrogant and self important enough to think marking in library books is exactly the kind of dip shit that would also think those notes are likely to be helpful to others because of their special boy insights
@IronIntOfficial Not sure of the lore here, but I guess let it serve as a reminder for new devs to get serious about backups. I had a single data loss incident and immediately set up nightly incrementals with Veeam to a drive that I have backed up offsite by Backblaze #neveragain
@ivangonlag Yeah, it's weird. Seems like engagement is down there for basically everything else but it's noticeably better for my game stuff. May just be because hostages actually still function there, but that's just speculation
