Central Florida is a Hurricane Magnet!
How many of you have experienced one of these storms? It’s remarkable - almost hard to believe - that all these storms in the past ~20 years have passed right over the same area! I did a #hurricane talk in the Davenport/ Haines City/ Kissimmee area this week and I showed this graphic. When we think about hurricanes the coast always comes to mind, but inland areas have been very hit hard! So, the lesson is: no matter where you live in #Florida you must always be prepared. Hurricane season starts in 3 days.
Talk about tone deaf...this "pop-up" is coming to Tallahassee. Featuring stories and performances of Ted Bundy. Remember, Tallahassee was shaken to the core by the murder of two and assault of sorority members at the Chi Omega house about 50 years ago....Ugghh
May 12, 1997:
A widely-documented F1 tornado impacted Miami, Florida. The twister produced over $500,000 in damage and injured a dozen people. Images from this event have been used in several documentaries and other educational material.

@stevemagness That's just cruel....
I remember in High School that Monday's were "quarter days" for those running distance. 12 X 400 at race pace or below with a half a lap recovery in between. If the coach had asked for one more we would strangle him, if we still had the strength.
@PaulFox13@chasedownleads Current rate of SLR is in the neighborhood of 8.5-12 inches per century. If your inland elevation is 50 ft above current sea level, do the math. Spoiler - it will be a couple dozen centuries.
Interesting....smelled smoke from the wildfires in south Georgia this morning here in Tallahassee. Back door front with northeasterly flow bringing the smoke right over us.
Drought & dry conditions continue, keeping fire weather concerns elevated.
⚠️ Watch for a potential dry-cold front late weekend/early next week. It could bring higher fire danger.
Please do your part to prevent new wildfires! 🔥

#Drought continues to worsen across #Florida despite recent rainfall. 73% of the state is in extreme drought and nearly 10% is now in the exceptional category. With the rainy season still a couple of months away, the wildfire threat across the state will remain elevated, making hyper-local weather data even more important. #floridaweather

@stevemagness Yes, but there is a difference between football speed (plus change of directions) and track speed.
I think people don't understand the honed technique behind world class sprinters....
@stevemagness The best tennis I have ever played was after a day of surfing when my arms were like noodles. Similar to my best races...sometimes fatigue and other stresses free you up to perform better!
