Last night, our staff attended the "Remembering Rosewood" event in Tallahassee. It was an honor to stand witness to the stories shared by direct descendants of the Rosewood tragedy, as well as those who tirelessly fought for reparations and justice.

Introducing Research Assistant, Sydney Griggs!
Raised in San Diego, California, Sydney Griggs serves as the council’s research assistant.
Ms. Griggs graduated summa cum laude from Florida A&M University, one of the preeminent historically black colleges in the nation. During her time at Florida A&M, Ms. Griggs participated in academic organizations such as the J.W. Hatchett Pre-Law Society and Lambda Alpha Epsilon
Ms. Caine earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Master of Applied Social Sciences with a concentration in Criminal Justice, both from Florida A&M University. She also earned a Master of Science in Criminology from Florida State University.

Introducing Research Coordinator, Yata Caine!
As Research Coordinator for the Florida Council on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys, Yata Caine is committed to bridging the gap of diversity for all black men and boys.
Prior to joining the team, she served as an Instructor at Florida A&M University within the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice, where she mentored students and taught courses such as Research Methods, Statistics, Theories of Criminal Behavior, and Race, Class, & Justice
At Saint Thomas University, Mr. Nelson is presently pursuing his Ph.D. in Ethical Leadership with a focus on Higher Education. He earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Florida A&M University and a master’s degree in higher education administration from Duquesne University.

Native from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Mr. Nelson serves as the first Executive Director for the Florida Council on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys.
With his history of academic achievement, professional development, and evolving strategies, he plans to redirect the Council to innovation and effective sustainability.

Introducing Chairman Jerome Hill!
Chairman Hill was appointed to the Council in 2017 by Deputy Secretary for Medicaid Beth Kidder. He currently serves as a Program Administrator for the Miami Medicaid Fair Hearing Unit located in Doral, Florida.
Mr. Hill has extensive courtroom and administrative experience practicing law enforcement in the state of Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Florida. He began his career as a law enforcement officer for the Allegheny County Housing Authority Police Department then transitioning to
