@OnlyCFO What types of internal apps are they forcing you to use? I have not seen this happen at my company, but tools like Claude with code-building functionality are not yet widely available for non-technical employees.
The budget process is not just a finance exercise.
It is the one time a year you get every leader aligned on the same plan.
Run it well and FP&A becomes a strategic partner. Run it poorly and you are just the spreadsheet team.
Step 7: Include a risks and opportunities tab
Risks = things in the plan that might not happen Opportunities = things NOT in the plan that could upside it
This is what separates a good budget from a great one.
I listened to an episode of a podcast called M&A Talk by Morgan & Westfield yesterday and absolutely loved it.
The guest they had on, @cassiobobsin, shared his experience with acquisitions, integrations, and the difficulties of a merger in a way that was very insightful.
Have others already heard of this podcast? I’m usually late to the game on these things.
@Beaver_Cap The projects I’ve done so far have been fixed-fee per project. It’s not a lot of $ right now, but I’m looking at the time spent working on the projects as practice for starting a financial services practice.
I just completed my second job on UpWork.
I’m currently trying to build up my rating, so I’m seeking out jobs I know I can complete and get a good review.
My first project was FP&A-related, but the survey I just completed was not at all related to the work I’m interested in. The survey did pay more than the first project though haha.
@MarginCFO@studio_mighty@danthewolfe I was actually just looking at your website a few days and I think this is a big improvement. Well done! Having a “book a consult” button front and center should drive more leads.
My team has officially kicked off 2024 budget preparation over the last few weeks.
Part of me feels like this is very early, but I'm not sure what the timeline looks like for other companies.
When is your FP&A team expecting to kick off their their budget process?
@bentigg Seems like there is enough SDE to hire someone to run/manage this instead of sell. That would give this owner time to work on the other businesses.
