@FPLGOAT7 The main worry is Maresca likes his wingers to hug the touchline, and Foden is apparently one of his 3 key pillars. It’s really tough to choose between the two.

@FPLFocal I do think he will start the season upfront as the 9. Expecting to see the Brentford version of him this year! Hopefully it’s not just the United optimism in me!

I do like your thinking. I think the community shield could really be the deciding factor for a lot of people. Haalands most consistent & best month is always at the beginning of the season!

I think City’s fixtures are kind and only having Semenyo is a risk.

I’ve gone with this as my first draft. Built an app using AI to give me the data and making all of my mistakes in public!

🤔PRE-SEASON FPL PLAYERS UPDATES - BY POSITION

Friendly returns are useful, but I am looking beyond the scoreline:

- Are they starting consistently?
- Has their role improved?
- Is there a clear route into the GW1 team?
- Does the price make the risk worthwhile?

GOALKEEPERS

Nobody has changed my view through performance yet.

Kinsky remains interesting because of Vicario’s uncertain Spurs future, but that is a minutes opportunity rather than a pre-season form argument.

DEFENDERS

Nordi Mukiele - £5.5m

Scored Sunderland’s winner against Wrexham after starting at right-back and has been gaining consisent minutes.

Sunderland begin with Ipswich and Fulham, but £5.5m means Mukiele needs attacking returns as well as clean sheets.

Jaydee Canvot - £5.0m

Palace have continued with a back three during pre-season, improving Canvot’s route to regular starts. He has been performing well and even chipped in with a goal in their last game.

His main appeal comes from clean sheets and defensive contribution points. However, wing-back Tyrick Mitchell costs £0.5m less.

MIDFIELDERS

Christos Tzolis - £6.5m

One goal and two assists across Arsenal’s three friendlies. He is seriously one to keep an eye on.

He assisted against MK Dons, scored against Girona and delivered the corner for Arsenal’s goal against Real Betis.

Three consecutive starts are significant. The Community Shield team should tell us whether he is genuinely in Arteta’s preferred XI.

Harvey Barnes - £6.0m

Scored against Bristol City and could receive a much bigger role following Anthony Gordon’s departure.

At around one per cent ownership, a starting Barnes would provide proven Premier League attacking threat at a very useful price.

Mamadou Sangaré - £5.5m

Brentford’s club-record signing played 45 minutes on his debut against Wycombe.

He ranked second in Ligue 1 for tackles won and third for ground duels won last season. That profile could suit the defensive contribution system. 18 DEFCON in just 27 games.

The question is whether he offers enough attacking output for an FPL midfield position especially as he adjusts to the league.

FORWARDS

Igor Jesus - £6.0m

Four goals in four pre-season appearances.

Nobody on this list has shown better form, and Forest have three attractive home fixtures in their opening five Gameweeks.

Competition from Chris Wood, Awoniyi and Kalimuendo remains the concern.

Oli McBurnie - £5.5m

Scored against Rizespor and Kasımpaşa, giving him goals in consecutive friendlies.

He scored 18 times during Hull’s promotion season and appears to be their attacking focal point.

Hull’s opening fixtures are difficult, but a nailed £5.5m forward could still be useful for squad structure and the early Bench Boost.

Richarlison - £6.0m

Scored the late winner against Chelsea, although Solanke started the match and from what I have read, will remain first choice.

The price and ability are attractive. The uncertainty is whether he starts often enough to become a dependable FPL selection.

Thierno Barry - £5.5m

Scored against Dundee and had another effort ruled out against Bolton.

Barry and Beto are still competing for the same position. Everton’s final friendlies should show who is currently ahead.
