The Major Richard Star Act would end the "wounded veteran tax." Republicans just wrapped this bill inside the "Take Care of America's Veterans Act," and chose to "pay for it" by SLASHING disability benefits for a much larger group of veterans.
The VA estimates the cuts could affect 1.5 million veterans and reduce future disability compensation by $57 billion over 10 years. Conditions like tinnitus and sleep apnea, both common in combat veterans, would face new rating restrictions.
As a medically retired combat veteran, Tristeza is one of the veterans the Richard Star Act was written to help. But she understands there's no fairness in robbing one disabled veteran to pay another.
