Another milestone in the collaboration between the @Uni_Rwanda and leading international institutions on impactful health research such as Institut Pasteur and @IVIHeadquarters.
Today marks the kick-off of the Accelerating Clinical Trial for CHIKungunya vaccine in Africa (ACT-CHIK) Consortium, a 4-year EU-funded (€15.3M) clinical trial project on Chikungunya vaccines, bringing together partners from Rwanda, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, Brazil, South Korea, and France.
The project aims to strengthen Africa’s clinical trial capacity, advance vaccine research, and explore pathways for local vaccine manufacturing on the continent.

In my capacity as Dean of the African Ambassadors to Sweden, I had the delight of welcoming the newest members of the Women African Ambassadors’ family at the Rwandan residence. We were pleased to welcome the Ambassadors of Namibia, Egypt, and the United Republic of Tanzania, and to brief them on our ongoing activities as we continue to strengthen cooperation and friendship among African women ambassadors in Sweden. I look forward to working together in the spirit of unity, solidarity, and mutual support.

As I watched Bill Gates’ visit to Rwanda from afar, I found myself reflecting on the extraordinary value of genuine partnership.

To our Nordic partners, and to all those who have chosen to stand with Rwanda in a spirit of trust, mutual respect, and shared purpose, thank you. You believed in Rwanda and its people and your partnership has meant far more than financial support. It has been a vote of confidence in Rwanda’s leadership, local talent, and the ability of Rwandans to build lasting solutions.

Watching @BillGates speak so positively about Rwanda’s progress; particularly about the passion, innovation, and determination of our young people was both inspiring and affirming. It is encouraging to see global leaders recognize what many of us witness every day: a country steadily transforming itself through vision, resilience, and hard work.

What gives me even greater confidence in Rwanda’s future is the strong foundation built under President Paul Kagame’s leadership. It is a system that empowers women and young people, and creates opportunities for all those willing to seize them. A nation that invests in its youth and ensures that mothers have the support they need is investing wisely in its own future. That commitment is helping build a society where more people have the opportunity to thrive and contribute.

I was also reminded of the enduring legacy of Dr. Paul Farmer, @PIH @ughe_org whose life demonstrated that dignity, equity, and true partnership can transform communities. His belief in working alongside people; not simply for them remains one of the most powerful lessons in global health and development.

To our Nordic friends and partners, thank you for showing that long-term commitment, trust, and collaboration create meaningful and sustainable impact. Your confidence in Rwanda strengthens our determination to innovate, create opportunities, and continue building solutions that can inspire others.

As I reflected on this visit, one thought remained clear: the most enduring progress is achieved when partnerships are built on mutual respect, shared responsibility, and confidence in one another’s potential.

To those who still view Rwanda through the lens of outdated assumptions or continue to see Africa primarily as a recipient rather than as a contributor : The time has come to visit, engage, and witness firsthand what Rwanda has become. See the innovation, meet the young entrepreneurs, walk through our communities, and experience the institutions and partnerships driving progress. See, too, where challenges remain and the deliberate efforts underway to address them. Form your conclusions based on facts, not perceptions.

Rwanda welcomes honest observers, thoughtful dialogue, and constructive collaboration because there is no better way to understand our journey than to experience it firsthand. Our story, like that of any nation, is still being written, but it is a story best understood through engagement, openness, and a willingness to see both our achievements and our aspirations.

This weekend in Sweden, East African diaspora communities took the lead in bringing sports diplomacy to life.

Sweden continues to demonstrate how sport can be a powerful bridge for diplomacy, unity and community. With world-class football grounds, excellent facilities, strong organisation and a welcoming environment, Sweden provides an ideal space for dialogue, facilitation and meaningful people-to-people connections.

I had the pleasure of joining my colleague and sister HE @swahibahm , the Ambassador of The United Republic of Tanzania to Sweden at the Opening Ceremony of the Serengeti Bonanza 2026 in Stockholm, an inspirational annual initiative organised by the Tanzanian diaspora in Europe, bringing communities together through sport, culture and friendship.

I then ended the weekend in Gävle, joining the Rwandan community for the Football East Africa Unity Cup; another inspiring example of how East African communities can come together through sport, strengthen bonds within the diaspora and celebrate our shared identity.

From Stockholm to Gävle, the message was clear: sport is much more than competition. It is a language of friendship, a tool for diplomacy and a powerful force for unity.

Grateful to the Tanzanian and Rwandan communities for creating these platforms, all the EAC - Diaspora football clubs that participated , and to Sweden for providing such a welcoming environment where these connections can flourish.

Two days ago, I had the privilege of leading the group of African Ambassadors to Sweden on a visit to the Stockholm City Council. It was, without a doubt, one of the warmest and most welcoming experiences our group has had in Sweden.

What made this encounter truly exceptional was the unique quality of our host. President Burell brought warmth, openness, generosity and a genuine willingness to listen and engage ; turning an institutional visit into a deeply human experience.

We gained fascinating insights into Stockholm’s history, its evolution, local democracy, the workings of the City Council and the collaborative spirit behind the city’s effectiveness. The thoughtful contribution of Alexandra Wynn, Director of Development and International Relations, further enriched our exchange.

But beyond the knowledge shared, what we will remember most is how President Burell made us feel: welcomed, valued and genuinely at home. That ability to create connection, dialogue and friendship is rare , and it made this encounter truly memorable.

For the group of African Ambassadors to Sweden, this was much more than a visit. It was a moment of genuine connection and shared values, and an inspiring example of how hospitality, openness, teamwork and public service can come together.

An unforgettable chapter in our connection with Stockholm and Sweden!
