Want to learn more about AI's applications in chemistry?

Starting Aug. 6, @ChemistryFsu's AI Bootcamp will take place over six sessions, beginning with an introduction to large language models and concluding with a discussion on the benefits, risks, and future of AI in education.

Hosted by Assistant Professor Wen Zhu and Cottrell Family Professor Oliver Steinbock, both from @ChemistryFsu, the AI Bootcamp will feature talks by faculty and staff from across @FloridaState — @fsulibraries, @FSUSciComp, @FSUComputerSci, @FSUiSchool and more!

There will also be guest lectures from folks affiliated with @PNNLab, @CMUEngineering, @uflorida, @EmoryUniversity, and Synfini.

It is not required to attend all six sessions.

Each session will be held in the Chemical Sciences Laboratory (Room 1005), except the Aug. 7 session, which will be held in Room 1003.

As wildfire smoke spreads across parts of Canada and the U.S., @FloridaState experts are available to discuss the conditions fueling the fires, the risks to communities and the science behind wildfire response.

From @FSUComputerSci, Yushun Dong (top right) leads the Responsible AI Lab, working on a publicly available data-driven platform of U.S. nationwide wildfires empowered by AI technologies. He is also part of @TheRiderCenter.

From @FSUSciComp, Kevin Speer's (bottom right) climate expertise ranges from global ocean circulation to the dynamics of hydrothermal plumes. Recently retired, he served as director of the FSU Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Institute from 2011 to 2026 and was a leading expert on the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires.

Caleb Joseph is part of the inaugural cohort of the @FloridaState DC Study Away Program!

Joseph — a senior in @FSUComputerSci at @FSUartssciences — is presently in Washington, D.C. for @CapitalOne's Analyst Intern Program.

"At Capital One, I drive data-informed business decisions by conducting analysis and model refinement on credit line increase program data, and fine-tuning machine learning policies to improve second-order risk evaluation. I would like to share the importance of being involved outside the classroom, as the majority of my opportunities have come from putting myself out there and getting involved."

Directed by @FSUCareerCenter, the DC Study Away Program allows full-time enrolled degree seeking FSU students completing internships to live in a supportive community with their peers, where they can focus on their internships while benefiting from shared support and connection.

Weikuan Yu, Ph.D. in the Department of Computer Science, (@FSUComputerSci), was awarded an $85,000 Lawrence Livermore National Lab grant for research on data reduction for efficient checkpoints and restarts of large language model applications. ���🧠📊

The commencement festivities are in full swing at @FloridaState, and we're celebrating our #FSU2026 grads! 🎓

Philip Quattrochi will cross the stage on Friday evening to receive his bachelor's degree in computer science (@FSUComputerSci), and as part of FSU Air Force ROTC, he'll also be commissioning as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.

"FSU provided me with the opportunity to do anything I've ever wanted professionally. I was able to grow as a leader, receive a helicopter training slot, and learn more about my passion for computer science all at once."

As one of 28 cadets nationwide selected for the Helicopter Training Next program, Quattrochi will soon begin training at Fort Rucker in Alabama to pilot Combat Search and Rescue missions.
