Want to learn more about AI's applications in chemistry?

Starting Aug. 6, @ChemistryFsu's AI Bootcamp will take place over six sessions, beginning with an introduction to large language models and concluding with a discussion on the benefits, risks, and future of AI in education.

Hosted by Assistant Professor Wen Zhu and Cottrell Family Professor Oliver Steinbock, both from @ChemistryFsu, the AI Bootcamp will feature talks by faculty and staff from across @FloridaState — @fsulibraries, @FSUSciComp, @FSUComputerSci, @FSUiSchool and more!

There will also be guest lectures from folks affiliated with @PNNLab, @CMUEngineering, @uflorida, @EmoryUniversity, and Synfini.

It is not required to attend all six sessions.

Each session will be held in the Chemical Sciences Laboratory (Room 1005), except the Aug. 7 session, which will be held in Room 1003.

As wildfire smoke spreads across parts of Canada and the U.S., @FloridaState experts are available to discuss the conditions fueling the fires, the risks to communities and the science behind wildfire response.

From @FSUComputerSci, Yushun Dong (top right) leads the Responsible AI Lab, working on a publicly available data-driven platform of U.S. nationwide wildfires empowered by AI technologies. He is also part of @TheRiderCenter.

From @FSUSciComp, Kevin Speer's (bottom right) climate expertise ranges from global ocean circulation to the dynamics of hydrothermal plumes. Recently retired, he served as director of the FSU Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Institute from 2011 to 2026 and was a leading expert on the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires.

On Friday, attendees of the Wakulla Springs Robot 3D Mapper Exposition had the opportunity to learn more about Sunfish, the autonomous robot helping @FloridaState researcher Ming Ye 3D map underwater caves in the Wakulla Springs basin!

By mapping the basin — which provides drinking water to nearly 10 million people — Ye (@FSU_EOAS / @FSUSciComp) aims to better understand how our water is affected by the geological makeup of the caves it passes through.

Ye, other hydrology experts, and the creators of Sunfish all spoke at the event, which also featured a live demonstration of Sunfish's mapping capabilities.

.@FloridaState in @abc27 ▶️ A new research project by Ming Ye (@FSU_EOAS / @FSUSciComp) will employ a robot called Sunfish and human divers to create 3D maps of a cave system spanning nearly 45 miles beneath Leon and Wakulla counties.

This work aims to find the water sources feeding into the Wakulla Springs basin, which provides drinking water to nearly 10 million people.
