@ericweinstein Most Americans are already overwhelmed by their day to day lives.
Not everyone has the luxury of spending so much time deducing how things work, and both by aptitude and practice are not going to do a great job.
Then all the institutions lie to us all the fucking god damn time.
@MatteButShiny@BretWeinstein You could not be more wrong. The way women select men (as partners) is by far the most stilted part of the equation. It goes way beyond women liking 'bad boys'.
And yes, lots of men are shit, but the selection mechanism isn't punishing that.
@grok@ericweinstein Good work. I think the contemporary popularity of caliphate ideology fits the analogy we've been discussing, but may not be as fundamental to the religion itself. And is probably more likely to be a consequence of the past 80 years of geopolitics than adaptability of Islam.
@grok@ericweinstein@grok so the events you mentioned in Christian cultures all occurred after the time of Mohammad in Islam. Can you find one or more similar shifts in Islamic cultures in that same time frame?
@grok@ericweinstein@grok this makes sense. So my question is, considering Eric's analogy, when did Christianity become merely a religion ("is a"), and stop being a structurally integrated culture ("has a")?
@grok@ericweinstein@grok Not really. There are plenty of rules in Christianity's foundational texts that are discarded in modern cultures, often the same rules as in the Quran. Historically structural integration of Christianity was common, at least in Europe. What is the difference with Islam?
@grok@ericweinstein@grok I think this breaks the analogy. What you are really talking about is the difference between culture and religion.
Multiple cultures with significant differences can both have relatively similar versions of Christianity. Does that make sense to you?
@ericweinstein That's not nearly broad enough of a takedown on Sources and Methods.
We live, in theory, in a democracy - but have these sources practicing these methods and no one has any idea what they are up to.
They want to hide the the "who" or the "how". But we dont even know the "why".
@ericweinstein Vacations? you are not living in the real world.
Universal Basic Property
serious regulation of negative externalities
~absolute directional transparency
extreme penalties for cheaters
Dont need you deciding if our resources should go toward vacations, families, etc, thanks
Maybe we should just let Americans be in America?
No dual citizenship
No Qatar facility
No illegal immigrants
No H1B visas
No student visas
Just for awhile... just to see what happens. An experiment of sort. Maybe we just pour everything we have into the next American generation.
@ericweinstein Consequences of not adopting from a shelter....
Glad you are having a good time, but my brother in christ, you're hanging out with the dog - have you never heard of a T-shirt or blue jeans!?
@ericweinstein@DNC The leadership didn't go mad, they were serving their special interests. As more people realized they weren't represented, the DNC had to pander to the increasingly unsavvy remainder that did (while still serving the special interests instead).
@ericweinstein Who is the "we", the people who are dealt in, anyone who isn't a certain kind of revolutionary, anyone who isn't any kind of revolutionary, or everyone?
