Pennie Ungar-Sargon, aka Ashira, is of Finnish descent, and she grew up in the Evangelical church. She was a missionary all around the world, believing it was her job to save people's souls. However, after meeting people of different religious backgrounds in medical school, she had a spiritual awakening and ultimately decided to convert to Judaism.
Make sure you tune in and check out her book, "Unleavened: The Ultimate Pesach Cookbook," on Amazon and listen to her episode in full on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.
Here’s another throwback. This is one of my favorite things I ever made and it featured the Late Great Patrice O’Neal and the late great Pat Cooper two very big personalities in the room at the same time that I had to direct. This was from a Web series I made in 07 called rise of the radio show and this particular episode I co wrote with my friend @andrewschulz it was called “the Job pimp”. The premise was that @patriceonealll was a job pimp somebody who gets people to quit their jobs so he can give the jobs to other people who would pay him for them. This scene was also difficult because Patrice didn’t want anybody else there besides me, Pat Cooper and @liamfoneil who co produced and shot and edited this show with me. Everybody else you see in the scene, including @mykafox and the brilliant Brian Haley and Chris and Dave had to be shot a different day and cut in which meant I actually had to write the scene around that and plan out the blocking which was a challenge in and of itself. I also shot the whole thing at my college, @baruch_college which I was no longer enrolled in so it was a challenge even getting people in the building. Anyway here is the clip, I hope you enjoy it.
The fact that the #ComicsBrokeMe hashtag is trending should be enough to call attention to how badly funded this art form is for most creators in it. It also has largely been that way forever and needs to change.
Super honored to have @DanielLobell's @FairEnoughComic be nominated at the inaugural @JewCE_NYC awards in the Autobiographical Narrative category! Though we suspect we should give our premature congrats to Art Spiegelman as well.
