The 80-20 Rule (Pareto Principle) applies to nations and world population. 80% of world population is in 40/200 or 39/195 nations (depending on definition of nation).
I just checked by typing in the % of the top 40 countries which added up to 80.3% and divided 40 by 200
@UrbanFoxxxx @CRapezzi This is an uneducated claim.
Africans have not been living in trees eating fruits. Most African city households had several TVs and other electronics 20 years ago. Africans maintain them longer and are superior in repair to wealthy nations.
The insight into #povertyporn is incredible. America's poor southerners are actually the key to understanding emerging market Africans. Maybe some rich and powerful want to divide them by pushing ignorant racism.
Pearl Spurlock, a woman taxi driver in Branson, is credited with the idea of "hillbilly sighting" tourism. Her advert in my great-grandfather's newspaper. Families in cabins would be told to pose barefoot on the lawn, for cash$$$
This is what Agbogbloshie is.
WR3A isn't asking so much for a rebuttal, but @NewsHour can look at research by reputable outside parties @rubbishmaker @rznagle @jennaburrell@AdamMinter Ask whether @MIT@SenseableCity arrived at just conclusion, or let financially involved NGO & racial profiling influence itπ§
@SenseableCity@NewsHour
WR3A hopes you read Josh Lepawsky's @rubbishmaker MIT PRESS "Reassembling Rubbish" (2018) & will now read @AdamMinter new book, Secondhand (Bloomsbury Press, Nov 2019). Both confirm the profound unfairness of the GPS tracker "conclusions" on ewaste.
Thanks to all of our supporters, contributors, interns, board members, and donors. Some of whom are shadow donors, due to the misconceptions about the overseas reuse market (and aren't named publicly). @WR3A

Vermont Recycling Company featured in positive conclusions by international recycling expert, author. @addyindy advance copy makes a splash https://t.co/Gvce3vxBMg
The worst reuse beats the best recycling.
The worst recycling is better than the best mining.
And the worst mining looks and smells like Mordor.
Gripping film of the children in mica mines of Madagascar, providing glitter to makeup.

Coconut shells are domestically generated in Africa. So are millions of household electric appliances. Ghana has built 5 hydroelectric dams since 1960, and still runs brownouts/electric shortages. Assumption that every photo of a junk TV was exported "for dumping" is colonialist
African reuse shops TAKE BACK ewaste that was imported there 20 years ago. Looking for EU's help. Fair Trade Recycling OFFSETs work way better than Basel inspired export bans and arrests of #techsector
Karim's first load already gathered from dozens of Ghana TV repair shops.
It is outrageous that GPS trackers were only placed in statistically good devices Africa and Asia does import, never into obsolete junk we are alleged to import (to save EU costs, we gather). And that the good stuff is sabotaged w/ wire cutters to render it junk. #poisonapple
So you want to slip a GPS tracker into goods I sell to Africa Tech Sector, who create a critical mass of users supporting internet, satellite, tower investments? Do me a favor and don't cheat by sabotaging the device, asshole. We're open about not boycotting emerging markets TY
We are (so far) only defender of the importing Tech Sector in Africa, Asia, and South America. Everyone else sold out #charityindustrialcomplex . We join/follow https://t.co/2JXzu9u3Wx and @EFF , others who get it
