Nairobi City deserves modern infrastructure that matches and supports its rapid transformation into a vibrant, inclusive urban economy.

Against this backdrop, the State Department for Housing and Urban Development is overseeing the ongoing construction of the South B Modern Market in Nairobi City County, a project designed to enhance trade, dignity of work and urban order.

The market is taking shape as a multi-storey facility that will host a total of 1,050 traders. The ground floor will accommodate grocery vendors, the first floor will serve mtumba traders, the upper stall levels will provide additional trading space, while the top floor will house restaurants, creating a commercial hub that operates around the clock.

Importantly, the project is already delivering tangible socio-economic benefits. Construction runs 24 hours a day, engaging 53 workers during the day and 81 at night, with a strong representation of youth and women.

Currently, casting works have brought the onsite workforce to about 450 people, including supervisors.

This continuous activity is creating direct employment and stimulating opportunities across the building and construction value chain, positively impacting city dwellers even before the market opens its doors. #DeliveringThePlan

So where exactly did this theory about Oketch Salah and Haji come from?

For clarity, he is not related to the NIS Director. That story is inaccurate, imaginative, and clearly designed for social-media excitement rather than facts.

Other than being a close ally of Baba, Mr. Oketch Salah’s family is well known in Migori, where they have been in the bread-baking and distribution business since the 1970s.
Any attempt to manufacture fictitious associations is therefore baseless and irresponsible.
