I had such a fun time with VICTORIAN PSYCHO. Director Zachary Wigon clearly relishes every moment of this adaptation of Virginia Feito’s novel, deploying so many creative camera moves and editing tricks that I took such sick pleasure in, even as the story got progressively darker and more messed up. Maika Monroe is completely unhinged in what may be her trickiest role to date, completely committing herself into the madness of her naughty Governess with such wicked delight. Ruth Wilson and Jason Isaacs are having just as much fun in their humorous supporting turns. And it’s great seeing Jacobi Jupe pop up in more films, though at a certain point someone needs to stop putting this poor kid through so much trauma. A dark psychological comedy-thriller, Winifred Notty is Patrick Bateman for those who love Emily Brontë.
