10,000 OPENAI AGENTS SOLVED A $1 MILLION PROBLEM IN 88 HOURS

For nearly 90 years, mathematicians could not determine whether the Navier-Stokes equations can break down while describing fluid motion.

-> Now OpenAI says it has found the answer.

The company deployed around 10,000 agents powered by an internal model significantly more capable than GPT-6 Astra.

They worked in parallel, exchanged 2.7 million messages and generated roughly 130 billion output tokens.

The digital team produced a proof in 88 hours.

The system showed that an initially motionless fluid can develop a singularity under certain conditions. Its velocity grows without bound within a finite amount of time.

GPT-6 Astra then spent another 17 hours formalizing and verifying the result in Lean.

The computation cost millions of dollars, but the company does not plan to claim the prize.

The proof must also survive independent scrutiny from mathematicians.

OpenAI just demonstrated a new model for scientific discovery.

A single AI is no longer trying to replace one scientist.

We’re sharing a solution to the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem, one of the deepest problems at the frontier of mathematics.

The proof was produced by a group of agents, using an OpenAI next-generation model significantly more capable than GPT-6 Astra.

The problem concerns whether the description of smooth three-dimensional fluid motion modeled by the Navier-Stokes equations can break down. It has remained unresolved for roughly 90 years.

1. Saya menafikan sekeras-kerasnya dakwaan Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi bahawa saya pernah memaklumkan kepadanya kononnya pihak Istana telah “mengarahkan” pembubaran Dewan Negeri Johor.

2. Apa yang saya jelaskan ialah pembubaran tersebut dibuat setelah mendapat titah perkenan DYAM Tunku Mahkota Ismail, Pemangku Sultan Johor, selaras dengan Fasal 23, Bahagian Kedua Undang-Undang Tubuh Kerajaan Johor 1895.

3. Menteri Besar tidak boleh membubarkan Dewan Negeri Johor sesuka hati. Pembubaran perlu melalui proses yang ditetapkan oleh Undang-Undang Tubuh Kerajaan Johor dan hanya berkuat kuasa setelah mendapat perkenan.

4. Saya telah mengadap dan mempersembahkan perkara tersebut. Selepas mendapat perkenan, saya mengumumkan pembubaran Dewan Negeri Johor kepada rakyat secara terbuka. Mendapat titah perkenan ialah satu proses perlembagaan dan sama sekali tidak bermaksud menerima arahan atau campur tangan politik.

5. Justeru, amat tidak bertanggungjawab untuk beliau kini memutarbelitkan proses perlembagaan yang sah sehingga mewujudkan persepsi kononnya Institusi Diraja mencampuri urusan dan keputusan politik UMNO Johor.

6. Beliau berhak meninggalkan UMNO dan berbeza pandangan dengan kepimpinan parti. Namun, kenyataan sedemikian amat serius dan berpotensi menyentuh sensitiviti 3R, khususnya berkaitan Institusi Diraja, selain boleh menjejaskan keharmonian serta ketenteraman awam.

7. Sehubungan itu, UMNO Johor akan membuat laporan polis bagi membolehkan siasatan dan tindakan lanjut dijalankan oleh pihak berkuasa.

8. Saya menyeru semua pihak supaya menghormati Institusi Diraja, mematuhi Perlembagaan dan Undang-Undang Tubuh Kerajaan Johor serta tidak memperalatkan institusi tersebut dalam pertelingkahan politik.
