The continued detention of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has created a growing public perception that justice is being overshadowed by external pressure and political considerations. In any democracy, that perception alone is deeply damaging.

Courts must be guided only by law, evidence, and constitutional principle. When a prominent opposition figure and leading voice within a political coalition remains in custody amid unresolved bail issues, many citizens will understandably question whether the process is truly independent, balanced, and free from interference.

No court should allow itself to appear as an instrument of partisan interests. The judiciary exists to protect liberty, restrain abuse of power, and stand above political contests. Where detention appears prolonged without compelling legal necessity, confidence in the system is weakened.

Mallam El-Rufai, like every Nigerian citizen, is entitled to the presumption of innocence, fair treatment, and impartial adjudication. His political relevance should neither advantage nor disadvantage him before the law.

We therefore call for an urgent, transparent, and strictly lawful review of his continued detention and all pending bail matters. Justice must not only be done; it must be seen to be done.

If courts bend to pressure, democracy bends with them.
If courts stand firm, the Constitution stands firm.
Nigeria deserves courts that answer only to the law.

DETENTION WITHOUT CLARITY: A DANGEROUS SIGNAL FOR JUSTICE IN NIGERIA

The continued lack of clarity around the detention of Nasir El-Rufai throughout the holy month of Ramadan raises serious concerns that cannot be brushed aside. This is not just politics, this is about justice, fairness, and the integrity of governance in Nigeria.

How does a government led by President Bola Tinubu justify keeping a high-profile public figure in detention during such a significant spiritual period without clearly communicating the full facts to the people? Nigerians are not asking for favor, we are demanding transparency. If there are legitimate charges, present them openly. If due process has been followed, show the evidence. What we are seeing instead is a troubling absence of openness that undermines public trust.

And let’s be clear, this is not a situation the presidency can distance itself from. It is difficult to believe that such a high-profile case could unfold without the awareness of Bola Tinubu. Leadership comes with responsibility, and that includes being accountable for actions taken under one’s administration.

Selective justice is injustice. When actions of the state appear politically motivated or shrouded in secrecy, it weakens the very foundation of democracy. No citizen, no matter their status should be subjected to processes that raise doubts about fairness and the rule of law.

This government must understand that accountability is not a threat, it is a responsibility. Nigerians deserve answers, not uncertainty. They deserve a system where justice is not only done but clearly seen to be done.

Until then, this situation will continue to stand as a symbol of everything that is wrong with governance when transparency is ignored and power goes unchecked.

Whenever I see pictures of the Haram like this, I’m reminded of the early Muslims who first accepted Islam. They had to hide just to pray. Reciting the Qur’an publicly was almost impossible. They were only a small group of believers carrying the light of Islam in their hearts, a light that enemies of Islam tried to extinguish from the very beginning, yet it kept growing no matter how much they tried to stop it.

And look at us today.

The congregations stretch from the Haram to Shahrah Mansur, from the Haram to Ajyad, from the Haram to Ibrahim Khalil, from the Haram to Bin Laden. The recitation of the Qur’an echoes everywhere through the speakers, filling the air with the words of Allah.

Alhamdulillah for the gift of Islam. 🙏
