Globally, girls aged 5-14 dedicate a staggering 550 million hours daily to household chores, while boys spend only 150 million hours daily; this statistic comes from a UNICEF report titled ”Harnessing the power of Data for Girls”. This unequal burden severely limits girls' time for learning, hindering their personal development and growth, and diminishing their opportunities to thrive.
Unpaid care work, primarily done by women and girls, contributes a staggering $10.8 trillion to the global economy each year, equivalent to 9% of the global GDP. Despite its significant economic value, this labor remains largely invisible and undervalued.
CORD Ghana is working tirelessly to break down these barriers and ensure every girl has the chance to learn, grow, and reach her full potential. By advocating for policies that value, reduce, and redistribute unpaid care work, we can create a more equitable society where women and girls have equal opportunities to thrive.
The Unpaid but not Unvalued (UbU) initiative campaigns to bring visibility and recognition to unpaid care work bring the men along as their contribution makes a sustainable home. The LEAN Game Unpaid Care Work Series 1 is actively used during outreach.
Let's recognize and value the contributions of unpaid caregivers and work towards creating a world where girls can pursue their education without interruption, develop their skills and talents and reach their full potential.

On the 23rd of July, 2025, CORD Ghana Education and Outreach team had a successful engagement with Kasalgu AME Zion Junior High School in the Northern Region of Ghana – Tamale. CORD team took learners through the importance of trees, how to protect and nurture each trees. Collectively, with the Green School Initiative (GSI) club of Kasalgu AME zion junior high school, we also celebrated the healthy growth of trees planted by our GSI club members last two years within the school environment.

The second session of the engagement was on the LEAN Game where learners played, learnt and had fun as well. It was educative and fun time with the Green School Initiative club of Kasalgu AME Zion Junior High School.

Through her words , " Life is life's most precious gift ", Sylvia Earle , a seasoned oceanographer empahised several times how biodiversity rekindles life .

Through human activities such as pollution and overconsumption, we contribute to endangering biodiversity life .
These devastating effects are dire . Habitat loss , a major contribution to climate change and invasive species and diseases are the repercussions of these actions on our biodiversity.

The solutions to the threats against Biodiversity are not far reaching. Man should be intentional and obviously caring for the environment.
As he said , " If you think the economy is more important than the environment, hold your breath while counting your money" , Barack Obama, a former United States president critically asserted that our environment, of which biodiversity finds itself should be given enough attention and focus .
Our karma lies in not protecting our beautiful environment and particularly, biodiversity.

Let us be the mouthpiece of the environment!

Center for Opportunities and Rural Development (CORD Ghana) organized training on Waste Valorization (Sustainable Energy and Waste to Resource Initiative - SEWRI) in Kulinkpegu community in the Mion District. As part of our Sustainable Energy Program, One hundred (100) women and youth were trained in Briquettes production (Clean cooking fuel) from their agricultural waste. This activity helped to reduce pollution, reduce landfill waste, provide affordable energy for all and supports communities to have a role in mitigative outcomes using carbon capture storage and utilization (CCSU) approaches. Resident were trained on practical skills in waste management, creating jobs, and protecting the environment. It was really an amazing moment with the community youth and women on the Sustainable Energy and Waste to Resource Initiative (SEWRI) Program.

On 5th June , 2025 World Environment Day, Center for Opportunities and Rural Development Ghana launched the most anticipated environmental game , LEAN( Learn , Educate, Act Now) at Ashcal Hotel, Tamale. This occasion brought together distinguished personalities from the academia, private sector players, governmental agencies and some non governmental organizations. Amongst participants in this occasion were students from selected schools in the region.
The game was officially and successfully launched after participants were taken through how the game is played . The categories of the games are;
Just Energy Transition(JET) game
The Health game
Greenthumb game(Afforestation/Deforestation)
Plastic game
Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights game.
The games comes in three forms, the cards, board and e-version to enhance variety.
We call on organizations and development partners, government agencies, and private organizations and business to fall on the LEAN programme and its packages as a toolkit to deepening learning among beneficiary groups including youth and children.
