NHL PxP commentator, Bob Cole, was THE voice of hockey for so many decades. Someone whose footsteps I wanted to follow in. There’s even a chapter in my book titled after him. Met him at the last ever game played at Northlands Coliseum. A CDN legend who’ll be remembered forever 🙏🏽
A sad day. Like all hockey fans I grew up listening to Bob Cole. Then was lucky to work w him at HNIC. I was so green. He was so kind. A fave memory-my 1st yr we had a team photo & the photog had Bob & I sit in the same chair & we got the giggles. He was a nat’l treasure.

“You are there to enhance the game. Don’t ever try and steal it from the players. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺’𝘳𝘦 the game.”
NHLPA members and staff are saddened to learn of the passing of broadcasting legend, Bob Cole, and extend their condolences to his loved ones.
Rest easy, Mr. Cole. Your voice will echo forever in hockey history.
It was always a pleasure and honour chatting with Bob Cole when he would do broadcasts at the Bell Centre.

The NHL Alumni Association is deeply saddened to learn that 2018 NHLAA ‘Keith McCreary 7th Man Award’ winner, Bob Cole, has passed away at the age of 90.
From small-town beginnings broadcasting hockey on the radio in St. Johns, Newfoundland, to 50 years working on Hockey Night in Canada, Bob had an illustrious career calling the game we love.
Cole’s brilliance in broadcasting led him to calling world-stage events, including the 1972 Summit Series, Olympics, and Stanley Cup Finals. His iconic “Oh Baby!” trademark call will always be remembered by hockey fans across the world.
In 1996, Bob was honoured by the Hockey Hall of Fame with the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award, and in 2016, he became a Member of the Order of Canada.
Not only was Cole an incredible broadcaster, he was a wonderful friend to the NHL Alumni Association and NHL Alumni members alike. He was awarded the NHLAA ‘Keith McCreary 7th Man Award’ in 2018 for his significant contributions behind the scenes.
We send our deepest condolences to Bob’s family, friends, and all those who knew and loved him.
I have many legendary Bob Cole stories, like others do, and I can’t help but smile at how many times, even though he was on @cbcsports and I was with other networks, he would ask.
“ Darren boy, can you get me the lines ? Left to right, just the lines please, that’s all” RIPBob
Hockey has lost one of its most iconic voices. Bob Cole was a wonderful man whose voice we will never forget. I’m so thankful he was on the call for my career.

There will never be another Bob Cole. He was the voice of hockey for a generation. He brought us joy and excitement. The way he anticipated a big play developing, and rise to the moment at the perfect time, was art. If you heard Bob Cole call a game, you witnessed greatness.
Bob Cole could make the opening of an envelope sound exciting. What a career and life to the age of 90. "Everything is happening!" "It's unbelievable!" "Oh baby!"
In my mind, the Greatest to ever do it. An inspiration to me and countless other hockey play-by-play announcers who aspired to be even half as good. He was always amazing when the “moment” arrived.
RIP Mr. Cole.
