Our researchers are evaluating the 'Making Space for Nature' project https://t.co/2O8TC2wOfJ to find the social & ecological conditions which can lead to effective stewardship of the enhanced sites, for people & #pollinators to thrive in urban environment.

๐ Working with keepers & #bees to figure out what on earth โsustainabilityโ means. My first day in the field this season, I got stung in the face. This is why I like bees - they donโt take any sh*t (if you donโt hide from them behind unsuitable policy). Same with #beekeepers ๐
@thisischerilyn Our local pool has closed. Donโt let our beaches close too. Youโre taking away our right to a healthy environment. #environmentalequity
@thisischerilyn The sea in which my children swim (to learn to become good lifeguards for our locals and tourists alike) are full of sewage because of conservative attitude to the environment. We need ENVIRONMENTAL growth; a GREEN economy. What is happening with ELMS?

@LondonBeePerson@JeffOllerton @pguythompson @apiculturalLdn There will always researcher, funder & beekeeper biases. The crucial thing is to try to make these biases clear, and represent diverse perspectives as faithfully as possible. Hopefully a clear methodology, peer review and a heap of integrity can help, but it's a learning process!
@LondonBeePerson@JeffOllerton @pguythompson @apiculturalLdn Absolutely! I chose Q method for this study as I think the method is structured and transparent to allow critical review; but also in-depth, contextual and beekeeper-led. It sits somewhere between the qualitative / quantitative 'comfort zones' of social and natural scientists.
@avochie @Nikolaj_Bi@jon_bennie@CIEEMnet But doing away with the Habs Regs (and ELMS) will not make things better. Considered reform under a different mind-set and leading the green economy will.
@avochie @Nikolaj_Bi@jon_bennie@CIEEMnet governs best practice in ecological consultancy. Every decision must be clear & evidenced - if you have concerns please do raise them. Ecological function must be maintained during development, and we need more renewables. We can work together to make the system better.
@jon_bennie As a consultant ecologist this makes me furious. Since when do folk go into ecology for self-gain?! I have never recommended further survey / mitigation etc to benefit myself - nor known any other ecologist to do this. I wonder if the same holds true for politicians.
@snyggbonde Thank you for sharing this! Motivations are complex & honeybee management is full of trade-offs. Despite this study in Cornwall (UK) indicating wild pollinators aren't prioritised by many beekeepers in practice, all the beekeepers I spoke with were sympathetic to their needs.
Played a small part in compiling this dataset of garden plant-pollinator interactions during lockdown for use by researchers far & wide.
Took my mind off homeschooling!
Thank you @JeffOllerton and global co-authors for all your hard work. #pollinators

During the #COVID19#lockdown a group of pollination #ecologists from 15 countries collected data on plant & #pollinators in their own #gardens.
The resulting data set of 47,000 flower visits has just been published in @JPE12328968

There are many different ways to keep bees! Beekeepers are so important; not just for honeybees, but also to make sure wild pollinators are not harmed. Our new research paper here:
