We were planning to announce everything (first round of grants, Feather Grants v2, funding call) together, but decided that the former could be done seperately. So here it is.
Stats from our first round of grants:
- 26 applicants
- 4 grants
- $1200 in cash

4 out of 26 might not sound like a lot. But we were working with little more than a $1000 cash pool and multiple applicants that did not...fit our mission.
The latter is on us, we need to do a better job of defining our niche. (Let's just say, we won't fund your IELTS exam)
But even so, you can still help fund this next round of grants.
We work with both crypto or Transferwise. The details are up on our site (https://t.co/qCoQeDGEtC), and you can email us your questions if you have any!
I've learned a couple of things hanging out at @FeatherGrants.
Almost every day a new grants program is mentioned in the chat. All are looking for good applicants in their own niche.
Seems like there's a lot of funding out there, but finding the right candidate isn't easy.
We had a very exciting meeting with Tomiwa, discussing specific ideas and the field as whole.
Extremely cool to see the tech he's built to support grant funders, and we hope more people get to hear about it soon!
@FeatherGrants@_naveenmishra@joodaloop I like that @FeatherGrants and @atilatech are both answering the same fundamental questions:
"What if you could make it easier for anyone to be a patron?"
"What if you could make it easier for anyone to receive patronage?"
Imagine the types of ideas that would spring forth.
Are grant organisations just supposed to sit back and write cheques? Or does it take a more active approach to truly get excellent results?
And do we underestimate just how much effort that is?

The Future Fund's regrantor grant says "We think the best grants will require actively going out and helping things get started, or finding new people." What is this if not the interactions and commitments principle? And see how different this is from 'hands-off' funding
